NHS Upper Elementary School

January 2021

End of Marking Period 2

Marking Period 2 ended last Friday, January 22nd. Report cards for the 2nd Marking Period will be available on the Home Access Center on Friday, February 5th at 3 pm.

Start of the 3rd Marking Period

With the start of the 3rd Marking Period, we added 12 students to "in person" learning with 0 students moving to the Virtual Academy. Our largest class size for "in person" learning stands at 18 students and even at this number, we are able to keep desks at 6 feet apart. Thus, all classrooms will be able to maintain 6 feet distancing. Overall, we have 76% of our student population coming "in person" with 24% of our students attending the UES Virtual Academy. We look forward to supporting ALL of our students as we navigate the second half of the school year.

Reminders: Daily Health Screener and Charging Devices

All students who attend "in person" need to have the Daily Health Screener completed each morning. This is a quick Google Form that I have linked below:

UES Daily Health Screener

Also, please remind students to charge their devices at home overnight. We appreciate your help with this.

Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year and students do not have school the two days before the weekend begins. At the UES, we would celebrate Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 10th.

At the UES, students will NOT be distributing Valentine's cards to one another. This is due to safety precautions and following our district's Health and Safety Plan. However, students will be participating in activities that day in both the "in person" classrooms and the Virtual Academy.

Afternoon Dismissal - Student Pick Up

Overall, our new procedures have been working to complete our student pick up in a timely and efficient manner. Thank you to our staff who work dismissal on a daily basis, especially those out in the cold every day.

As you may have noticed, a line of cars begins to back up during this time before and after we open up the gate to the side parking lot. To ensure our busses can safely turn into the front parking lot, please do not pull your car up in front of the blue sign. This blue sign is located as soon as you make a right turn into the UES parking lot. Instead, please wait on the main road until your car will fit safely ahead of the blue sign. I included a picture of this location for your review. Thank you for your cooperation.

Big picture

Snow Days - Asynchronous or Synchronous

Moving forward, we may have snow days where students learn synchronously or live via ZOOM for the day. The district will provide information regarding these days so all parents/guardians are aware of the plan for the day.

Please be aware that we will not be having 2-hour delays this school year. If morning weather could be an issue, the district may move to a virtual learning day.

Full Virtual - If this happens in the future...

If at any point, we have to move to a full virtual schedule in the future, we will revert back to the schedule from the week of November 30th. Here is a link with this information:
