Alkaline Earth Metals
Group 2
What are Alkali Earth Metals? Where can you find them?
The Alkaline Earth Metals can be found in group 2 of the Periodic Table. They include Beryllium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium, and Radium. These elements are shiny, silvery-white, and can be reactive at at standard temperature and pressure. Being in Group 2, this means that these elements have 2 valence electrons. All of the Alkaline Earth Metals occur in nature and you can find them there.
Beryllium
This is a reaction of Beryllium making the blue flame. Beryllium is a hard, gray metal and is relatively rare.
Alkaline Earth Metals
This is where the Alkaline Earth Metals are found on the Periodic Table. Group 2 contains Beryllium, Calcium, Strontium, Magnesium, Radium, and Barium.
Magnesium
Magnesium is an Alkaline Earth Metal. It is a shiny gray solid and burns with a bright white flame. It can be used in flash bulbs.
What are Alkaline Earth Metals used for?
There are many uses for these elements. Alloys are created through Beryllium, as well as Magnesium. Calcium is used in nutritional supplements. Strontium is used in fireworks and Radium is used in medical machinery.
