CB West Athletic Updates
Track & Field:
West boys hit district standards in three events on Tuesday in their first loss of the season to rival Pennridge. Special performances were turned in by Brian Iatarola (1st 3200m, 2nd high jump), Erik Metz (2nd triple jump, 2nd long jump, 3rd high jump), Rock Fortna (2nd 1600m, 2nd 800m), Christian Bobowicz (2nd 100m, 3rd 400m), Joe Manetta (300 hurdles 3rd, 200m 3rd), Noah Griffin (110 hurdles 2nd, triple jump 3rd), Kevin O’Hanlin, Ryan Walsh, Brody Johnson, and Griffin Shields (4x100), Brian Mass (2nd 3200m), Ben Bunch (3rd 1600m), Corey Cepeda (2nd Discus), Jamie Fitzsimmons (2nd Javelin), and Paul Kyriakos (3rd Javelin).
CB West Girls track team enjoyed a very successful week winning two league meets. On Tuesday, they traveled to rival Pennridge and defeated them 76-74. On Thursday, they were dominant on the track and won comfortably over Quakertown. The girls are participating in some invitational events this weekend with the goal of finishing with qualifying marks for the district championships.
The Bucks split their matches this week with North Penn and Council Rock North. The boys traveled to North Penn and defeated them 5-2 on their home court. The next day, they played one of District One’s top teams and suffered a loss. Thursday’s match with Hatboro-Horsham was rained out.
Boys’ volleyball started the week with a loss to Souderton. After some practice time, they were able to defeat North Penn on Wednesday night and look to continue their winning ways against Cheltenham this Friday night at West. Good Luck boys!
The girls played just one game this week against district rival CB East. The weather was a factor in the game, but it did not keep the teams from competing in a very close game. The lead changed a number of times and featured a last minute goal by Bryn Boylan to put the Bucks ahead with just seconds remaining. The Patriots were able to score as time expired sending the game to overtime. Sophomore Finley Ueland was able to score in the second overtime to secure the win for the Bucks. A special congratulations to junior captain, Bryn Boylan, who scored her 100th career goal in the game!
The boys did suffer their first loss this past Saturday to Ridley. The loss came just hours after they competed in a delayed game Friday night when they defeated Pennridge. This week the boys were able to bounce back and comfortably beat Souderton and Holy Ghost Prep. The boys will travel to North Penn this afternoon and host Hatboro-Horsham on Monday evening.
The girls continued their winning ways this past week. They were able to defeat Pennridge on Tuesday in dramatic fashion. Freshman Shannon Stewart was called in to pinch hit in the sixth inning and notched her first hit, a game tying home run, over the fence. The Bucks later took the lead on Angelina Sherba’s home run. On Wednesday the girls hosted Souderton and were able to secure another win after falling behind early. The girls are one win away from surpassing their total number of wins from last year. All of their hard work is paying off. We are proud of you girls.
The boys are still searching for their consistency at the plate and on the mound. They have been competitive in all of their games and leading in most of them. They took the field yesterday to prepare for a successful week ahead in search of their first win. Better days are on the way!
