Staff Update
March 2, 2018
Thank You!!!
We would like to thank each of you for the amazing lunch and goodies on Wednesday. It means the world to us to work with such an amazing staff here at Hillcrest! We cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work you put in every day!
Please make sure you are using the correct listserv when you send out emails. We want to ensure the email is sent to the correct staff members.
HES Staff - Goes to all staff members who work at Hillcrest including cafe, custodians, SAC, etc.
HES Teachers - Goes to all certified teachers within the building including teachers and administration.
Hillcrest - Goes to Heather, Linda, and Amanda.
HES SAC - Goes to SAC staff.
Please be mindful to use the appropriate listserv so we are only including those who need the information you are sending out. Also, limit reply alls when it is a message sent to all staff members. We all receive a lot of emails throughout the day and this causes inboxes to get full quickly. Please only respond to who needs the information.
Online Technology Modules
Please make sure you are working on these. These are done by the end of the school year for the rest of the district, before our extra 20 days. When you are complete, you will not receive a certificate when you are done. These are required!
Car Rider Duty Procedures
If you are in a position next to vehicles, you are required to wear the yellow safety vests.
MAP Testing Update
The new MAP window for HSA is April 30-May 11.

Dress Code
Please remember the dress code for staff and students as we the weather is beginning to get warmer. If a student is in violation of the student dress code, please send them to the office so we are able to address it appropriately.
Dress Guidelines for students - From the K-6 Student Handbook
A school is frequently judged as much by the appearance of its student body as it is by the caliber of its academic program. Therefore, we request pupils maintain a clean and neat appearance. Students should wear clothes appropriate for the weather conditions and school day activities. Footwear appropriate for physical activity in gym and at recess helps to prevent injury. Students may not wear clothes that are disruptive to the educational process (i.e. alcohol or tobacco advertisements, inappropriate language and/or suggestions, etc). If there is question over a student’s dress or appearance, the parent will be contacted.
It is inappropriate to wear anything that distracts from or disrupts the learning environment or educational process. Examples of distracting or disruptive items and clothes are listed below:
Sagging pants (pants worn below the waist)
Obscene/profane T-shirts
Drug, alcohol, tobacco related items or clothing
Translucent clothing
Underwear (when worn as outerwear)
Headwear (hats, hair rollers, bandanas, headbands, sunglasses)
Sleeveless tops with spaghetti straps or boys muscle shirts
Shorts may be worn, but the length should be approximately mid-thigh or “thumb” length when standing up straight
When, in the judgment of a teacher or principal, a student’s appearance or mode of dress disrupts the educational process, or constitutes a threat to health or safety, the student may be required to make modifications. Please also refer to Belton School District Board Policy JFCA.
Professional Dress for staff - From the HSA Staff Handbook
All staff are expected to dress professionally daily. Jeans should be reserved for Friday with spirit wear and professional in appearance. Jeans should be appropriate for school with the absence of holes.
Professional dress does not include sweatpants, yoga pants, workout gear, shorts, spaghetti or thin-strapped shirts/dresses, skirts/dresses that are too short, etc. Please use conservative judgment. Please be aware of appropriate coverage in all situations.
Perfect Attendance Recognition
This information is for full time, certified teachers and support staff (paras, secretaries, nurses, regular day custodian) permanently assigned to our school buildings and who regularly work during school hours.
All Hands on Deck!
Spring fever is upon us! Students have the best experience in our schools when they are interacting with their regular teachers and support staff. While some districts are offering incentives for substitute teachers to accept positions, we have decided to offer those incentives to our full-time staff in each school. You make the difference! In order to stress the importance of attendance, we are offering an attendance incentive for the months of March, April, and May. This incentive is available to all full time, permanent, certified and non-certified staff who work in one of our 10 schools during the school day. Rebecca Brucker will email principals on Friday to confirm day custodial attendance for the week.
Here is how it works:
Each week you maintain perfect attendance for the entire day (minus any professional obligations), you become eligible for a building level (recognition/award - which will be a lunch provided for you at the end of the month). Perfect attendance means attending from the start of the school day until students are dismissed.
At the end of the month, those with perfect attendance (minus professional obligations) will have their name entered for a monthly drawing from Central Office in the amount of $500.00. This amount will be taxed and submitted as direct deposit in a lump sum to the account the employee has recorded with Payroll. Principals will submit names on the last working day of the month. The drawing will take place the following week.
Weekly and monthly attendance for March will begin on March 5th, 2018.
Though the district incentive will end when the rest of the district is out in May, we will continue the building incentive through the end of the STEAM school year.
