Every Day and On Time
- During November we challenged students with a 95% attendance goal and we were able to celebrate 12/18 days of meeting that goal.
- In December we increased the challenge by including tardies (in attendance by 7:40am). We didn't make the 95% goal at all during the month.
So we are going to keep the challenge going... into January... with an expectation of 95% of our students at school and ready to learn by 7:40am each day. We're confident it can be done and we know parents will support their children's attendance. Please remember:
- Our school doors open at 7:20am.
- Students go to their classrooms at 7:30am.
- Classes begin at 7:40am with announcements, the pledge, and attendance.
- Students who arrive after 7:40am may have a more difficult transition into the classroom and may have missed important information about the day.
- Chronic tardiness impacts academic growth.
Parents must call to report their child's absence. The attendance line is 815-337-8620. If we can help in any way, please call the school office to let us know.
INDOOR RECESS
Monday ~ Wednesday ~ Thursday: After lunch, students go to the Band/Orchestra room where they are supervised by our 3 Noon Supervisors. In this room we have an assortment of games and activities including Battleship, checkers, Legos, Jenga, blocks, white boards and coloring sheets, and decks of cards. Students enjoy time with grade level peers and at the end of the 20 minute recess they line up to return to their classrooms. Our 2nd - 5th graders are given the option to bring an independent reading book on these days. Those who choose to read are permitted to sit quietly in the hallway with their books.
Tuesday ~ Friday (Band/Orchestra Room is in use): After lunch, students go to the gym where they are supervised by our 3 Noon Supervisors. Students will sit around the perimeter of the gy and will be encouraged to use the games and activities available to them on the "Indoor Recess Cart". Activities include Giant Jenga, Checkers and Chess, books (Jokes and Riddles), Coloring Sheets, white boards and markers, Decks of playing cards, and more. We will continue to add to the items available.
Whenever possible we will have recess outdoors. Remind your children to bring snow pants, coats, hats, gloves, and warm boots!
JANUARY FOCUS - INTEGRITY
People with integrity tell the truth and act in a sincere way. They treat people equally and take responsibility for their own feelings and actions. Integrity is more than just being honest; it's acting ethically, consistently, and in a trustworthy manner.
Integrity is sometimes summed up as "doing the right thing, even when no one is looking."
