Resource Teachers Weekly Update
Week of 4/13-4/17
Mr. Black
This past week we have been looking at the making choices and what options we really have in a variety of gives situations. As we move into next week we will look at the consequence those choices have the good, the bad, and the ugly. Then work on developing the skills necessary to make choices, understand their consequences for now and later as well as how those consequences affect ourselves and others.
Mr. Cetro
This week, students in math began instruction in the ratios and proportions unit focusing on scaling and equivalent ratios. They accessed online learning through IXL. This next week, students in math will continue the ratios and proportions unit through IX, focusing on proportions
This week, students in reading continued engaging in individualized reading instruction, utilizing decoding strategies to continue mastery. Next week, students in reading will continue to receive individualized instruction.
Mrs. Doerr
3rd hour:
This week - Students created comic strips to show social problem solving.
Next week - Students will continue to apply previously learned skills about social problem solving in a variety of ways.
6th hour A days:
This week- Students worked on compound sentences, using reading comprehension strategies and vocabulary.
Next week: B day students will use SIMS strategy to continue work with compound sentences. They will complete a variety of activities to reinforce those skills. A day students will continue work with social skills and expressing emotions. All students will complete a vocabulary activity.
Mr. Downey
1st hour:
This week: Students conducted a reading fluency activity via FlipGrid, and read informational texts in History and Science for key ideas and details via Khan Academy.
Next week: Students will read a technical text for key ideas and details. Then they will look at vocabulary and word meanings in a history text.
6th hour:
This week: Students continued a unit on Variables, Expressions, and Equations. The content was over the distributive property with variables and factoring with the distributive property, and then equivalent expressions with negative numbers and distribution via Khan Academy and IXL.
Next week: Students will work on interpreting linear expressions. 7th hour: This week: Students began to apply RCRC to words and definitions on Google Documents. Next week: Students will apply RCRC to questions and answers.
Mrs. Hennekes
This week in ELA 7: Students read chapter 4 of the Hunger Games and reviewed the reading strategies summarizing and questioning. Next week we will move to reading chapters 5 and 6 in the Hunger games and continue with Summarizing as well as making predictions with theme.
This week in ELA 8: Students began reading the novel Ghost Boys and working on the reading strategy of questioning. Next week the class will continue reading Ghost Boys and move onto chapters 2-3. They will also work on questioning and summarizing.
This week in LS 2nd hour: Students used advanced organizers to organize facts from informational text. Next week they will continue to use advanced organizers to compare and contrast informational texts.
Ms. McDaniel
7th hour: This week we began our dialogue portion of blogging. With moving to 4 days a week only one blog post is required of them per week. The students are still being asked to read 15 minutes a day and will have a check-in at the end of every week. Next week we will start on figurative language in their blogs.
3rd hour A/B: This week we continued to support the instruction being taught in Math 7 and 8. We used Khan academy for reviewing the subjects that are being taught in Math 7 and 8.

ELA
This week:
Students reviewed vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Light and Sound. Students applied previously taught reading strategies to a book related to sound and a book related to light. Students reviewed a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as used digital tools to develop 3-5 sentence paragraph about the topic, “My favorite movie” using digital writing tools.
Next week:
Students review vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. Students will apply previously taught reading strategies to the Introduction, leveled book and Chapter 1 in Unique Learning Systems. Students will review a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as use digital tools to develop 3-5 sentence letter/card to a friend or family member that they miss, using digital tools or hand-write. Students will practice the life skills of addressing and putting a stamp on an envelope, and then mail the letter from home.
Vocational Skills
This week:
Students reviewed rating systems (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and applied this system to a weekly in-home job routine. Students completed an evaluation of the job, including what they did well and areas they can improve on. Students completed workplace signs activities and chose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, and stocking in Unique Learning systems. They also completed a personal information form.
Next week:
Students will review previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and apply these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will continue to review a rating system (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply to a new weekly in-home job routine selection. Students will complete an evaluation of the job. Students will continue to review workplace and safety signs activities, as well as choose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, or stocking in Unique Learning systems. Students will complete a practice job application form using their personal information.
Math
This week:
Students reviewed previously taught math strategies for subtraction, including Touchpoint math, counting backward, using a 100’s chart and using a calculator. remaining subtraction unit word problems in Unique Learning Systems that involve subtracting like fractions and subtracting positive and negative numbers on a numberline. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts.
Next week:
Students will review previously taught math strategies for counting to the next dollar using the Dollar Up strategy, counting money using TouchMoney strategy, and for adding and subtracting money using Touchpoint math, counting backward, using a 100’s chart and using a calculator. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts.
Science/Social Studies:
This week:
Students read the News-2-You article of the week: Greta Thunberg and Earth. Students reviewed vocabulary for Light and Sound monthly unit vocabulary. Students also completed a map skills, experiment and cooking activity.
Next week:
Students will read a news article about Earth Day, April 22nd. Students will review vocabulary related to Reducing, Recycling and Reusing. Students will also complete a map skills, experiment related to the Earth Day theme, and cooking activity.
Ms. Pangelinan
Wilson Reading: This week students practiced their reading skills by working on iXL, listening to voice recordings of our novel and sharing their thoughts, and they made a flipgrid video of them reading a Wilson passage. Next week, Students will continue listening to voice recordings of our novel and completing response logs. They will read a Wilson Word List three times and record their times to practice fluency skills. Students will apply reading comprehension strategies to read a passage and answer a variety of comprehension questions.
ELA 8: This week students practiced using flipgrid, started reading the novel Ghost Boy, and read a poem by Kobe Bryant and shared their thoughts. Next week, we will continue our poetry unit. They will write a Cinquain poem. Students will apply reading comprehension strategies to read a passage and answer a variety of comprehension questions. They will listen to voice recordings of Ghost Boy and answer some comprehension questions.
Learning Strategies Math: This week students worked on solving problems with rational numbers and they worked on unit rates and unit prices. Next week, students will work on mixed operations word problems and practice reading clocks and writing times.
Learning Strategies ELA: This week students finished an essay on spring break, continued summarizing readings of our novel, and applied reading comprehension strategies to read a short passage and answer a variety of comprehension questions. This week students will continue listening to voice recordings of a novel and respond to some comprehension questions.
