Highland High School- March 2020

Juniors- SAT Pre- Bubble in

Juniors will be completing the Pre-Bubble In portion of the SAT answer sheet in late March/ Early April. At this time students will enter up to 4 colleges, universities or scholarship opportunities where they would like their scores sent for free. Please talk with your students about where they should sent their scores. Scores sent later will cost about $15 per send.

Juniors: SAT Test April 14th

Current Juniors will be participating in the IL State Funded SAT test on April 14th. This is a graduation requirement and will be given at HHS during the school day. Students may utilize Khan Academy for test prep. Colleges will accept SAT scores from this test date as part of your college application.

PSAT Testing- Sophomores and Freshman April 14th

Freshman and Sophomore students will be participating in the PSAT 9 or PSAT 10 on April 14th during State testing. Students are reminded to be on time, bring non-mechanical number 2 pencils and a calculator on test day. Room assignments will be posted on the school counselors window and in the English wing soon. Test results will be available through a student's college board account. These can be created at any time at www.collegeboard.org. Please be sure to use the same address you enter on your answer sheet as when you create your account. This is how college board will link scores.

$$$ Scholarships- Deadlines Approaching

There are lots of opportunities for students to get money to help pay for college. Applications are available in the Career Center. FTT is a great time to pop in and see what's available.

It is the STUDENT'S responsibility to research scholarships they are eligible for and complete the applications on time. Check out our website for the scholarship database:

Illinois Science Assessment- April 22nd

All Juniors are required to take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) on Wednesday, April 22 from approximately 7:40-11:40am. This is a computer based test that has three sessions that are estimated at 40 minutes each, although the test is technically untimed.


Juniors who meet the State Benchmark on the ISA test may be exempt from their Science Final Exams both semesters as a senior for the 2020-21.

NAEP Test- April 21st

Students selected to take the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) test will complete this on April 21st. Students were chosen randomly by the NAEP organization to participate. Administration will be meeting with those selected students to share more information about this exciting opportunity.

Senior Exit Interviews

School Counselors will be meeting with Seniors in Late April to complete their exit interview. At this meeting seniors will report plans for after high school and complete their final transcript request. Students will also report scholarship and money received.

SWIC Dual Credit

Some courses at HHS allow students to earn credit at SouthWestern Illinois College- this does not mean that a student has to go there- only they have credit that may transfer. For additional information please check: http://www.swic.edu/dual-credit/

SLU 1818 Dual Credit

AP Chemistry and AP Language and Composition give students additional opportunities for college credit. Students may choose to enroll in the SLU 1818 dual credit program and pay for SLU college credit for these courses. This credit may transfer to other institutions. Students in these courses may also chose to take the AP college board exam in May to earn credit as well.

https://ilcis.intocareers.org is a great website to start your career and college search.

1. Select the IL Resident Folder on the bottom right

2. Click "CIS HS/COLLEGE"

2. Enter your city and zipcode under IL residents

3. Hover over the "Assessments" folder and use any of the tools under "how do my interests relate to occupations" on the right hand side


There are a lot of fun tools including a reality check and skills inventories available on this website.

Advanced Placement College Credit/ AP Exams

March 13th is the ABSOLUTE last day to add or drop an AP Exam.

ACT Testing- Juniors

Students may want to consider taking the ACT on a National Test date. They must sign up for a National Test date so scores are ready when students apply for college their senior year. For testing dates, registration deadlines, more information and to sign up visit http://www.actstudent.org


If you can't afford the registration fee for the ACT or ACT with writing, you may be eligible for an ACT fee waiver. See your school counselor for additional information.
