A Caring Learning Community Celebrating Diversity

A Message From Our Administration

Dear Dumfries Families,

We are off to a wonderful start of our school year! We are very happy to see everyone learning routines and procedures. This year each class begins their day with a Morning Meeting that allows students an opportunity to build a sense of community and strengthen their social skills. We look forward to showing you how we begin each day at our Back To School Night at the end of the month. Please check our schedule for date and times for our Back to School Nights.

On September 10, 2019 at 6:00 pm, we will have our first PTO meeting in our school library. We want you to be involved in our school community! Please join us to learn about all the ways you can support our students and teachers here at Dumfries. We are looking for leaders, come and show your support.

We encourage you to volunteer in your child's classroom. Please consider coming in to help in your child's classroom or even help in the cafeteria. WE LOVE OUR COMMUNITY!

We are looking forward to an excellent year!

Mrs. Magrath and Mrs. McFadden

Kindergarten Bus Authorization

Kindergarten students must be accompanied to and from bus stops by an authorized person(s). Your child will not be released to any authorized person(s) unless a valid government/state ID is presented to the bus driver daily. Your child will be returned to the school if there is no authorized person at the bus stop or the designee does not have a valid government/state ID. Students returned to the school must be picked up within one (1) hour or other county agencies will be notified. This information is from the PWCS website, linked here. Please see the attachments below if you have not already completed the kindergarten authorization form. Forms are included here in English and Spanish. Please see the above link for additional languages.

Providing A World-Class Education requires clear responsibilities, expectations, and rules that apply primarily to students, but also guide the behavior of parents, teachers, and school employees. These are addressed in detail in Prince William County Public Schools’ Policy and Administrative manuals, and are summarized in the Code of Behavior (COB).

Review the Code of Behavior

Make sure you and your children understand the expectations, rules and regulations, policies, and procedures it contains. Use these “rules of the road” to navigate opportunities and challenges in PWCS, while protecting the health, safety, and rights of PWCS students and staff, and the quality of our learning environment.

The Code of Behavior can be found in PDF form below for your convenience. All information taken from the PWCS website and linked here.

School Wide Behavior Plan

In addition to the county-wide Code of Behavior, please take time to review the Dumfries Elementary School Wide Behavior Plan. This information was included in your student's welcome back folder. It includes a signature page, that is to be signed by both the parent and student to ensure it has been read and is understood. Please see the plan attached below.

Student ID/Lunch Number Practice

It is very important for your student to know their student ID number. This number will follow them through their schooling with Prince William County Schools. When students eat a meal at Dumfries, they are required to enter this number. Each student received a practice keypad flyer with their ID number from the cafeteria staff. Please practice keying this number with your students. Their ID number can be found online in ParentVUE. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
