For the second year in a row the Hewitt-Trussville football team finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record. The #3 ranked Huskies defeated Florence 45-35 on Friday night in an explosive offensive game.

Following a Florence fumble, the Huskies got their first score of the night as Cameron Bledsoe rushed into the end zone. The Huskies drove down the field just before halftime and kicker Parker Colburn connected on a 35-yard field goal as time expired. Coach Josh Floyd said, “The end of the half was key, we flipped the score there. We made a couple of stops and had the momentum going into halftime.”
Florence put together a long drive to start the second half and scored to take a 28-24 lead. The Huskies struck back quickly as McElwain dashed in from 33 yards out. Later, McElwain added an 8-yard touchdown run and the Huskies led by ten points. Floyd said, “Elliott’s a workhorse, he just does everything every week. He has such a great heart and I’m super proud of him.”
Florence would keep battling and they cut the lead to three with an 85-yard touchdown run. Sophomore Dazalin Worsham caught a screen pass on the next drive and had an electrifying 61-yard run to extend the lead to 45-35. The Huskies defense added a goal line stand late in the game to seal the win.
