Graduation Requirements
English = 4 credits
Math = 4 credits
Science = 3 credits
Social Studies = 2 credits
Government/Economics = 1 credit
Fine Art = 1 credit
Personal Finance = ½ credit
Wellness = 1 ½ credit
Foreign Language = 2 credits
Elective focus (pathway) = 3 credits
Elective = 1 credit
*A total of 23 credits are needed for graduation.
**All seniors must take the ACT and the Civics Test to graduate.
Registration Timeline for the 2018-2019 School Year
January 29th - February 27th
Counselors will meet with students individually during their English class to discuss their classes for next school year. We will begin with rising seniors and finish with rising sophomores. Students will bring home a packet of information with their teacher recommendations prior to meeting with their counselor. Students will be able to register online through INow at school after they meet with their counselor.
March 12th
Verification forms will be sent home. A parent override form is required to take a course beyond the teacher recommended level and must be signed in person at BHS. The deadline for parent overrides is March 16th.
March 16th
Signed verification forms with any changes are due to the counseling office. No changes will be made past this date.
Rutherford Works High School Internship Program Application Deadline February 9th
The Rutherford Works High School Internship Program is a partnership with employers who offer students productive and meaningful work assignments with a learning component ideally related to their area of interest. The Internship Program will provide 60 rising seniors who reside in Rutherford County the opportunity to gain paid work experience with a Rutherford County employer.
Students will learn about and begin to develop 21st Century skills and competencies needed for success in the workplace. The duration of internship is 4 weeks or 64 working hours. In addition to gaining work experience, students will also receive 4 hours of pre-employment training and 16 hours of work based learning. Click here for more information. Youth Leadership Rutherford Applications Now Available
Youth Leadership Rutherford is directed by the Leadership Rutherford Chair, Executive Director and Business Education Partnership Executive Director. Youth Leadership Rutherford consists of a weekend orientation program in September, seven seminar days from October- April, and graduation in May. Each day focuses on a major area of community concern and explores issues of leadership within the context of that subject. The goal of each day is to open the minds of participants to the viewpoints that surround each issue and enable young people to become more visionary leaders. Click here for more information.
Criteria for selection include:
- Rising high school senior
- GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Demonstrated interest in leadership positions in school and/or community
- Desire for personal growth opportunities
- Commitment to completion of entire program

Graduating with Honors and Distinction
To graduate with honors students must meet the following ACT benchmarks:
English: 18
Math: 22
Reading: 22
Science: 23
Distinction
To graduate with distinction students must attain a 3.0 GPA and meet one of the following criteria:
- Participate in at least one Governor’s School
- Participate in one of the TN’s all State musical organizations
- Be selected as a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist
- Attain a composite score of 31 or higher on the ACT
- Attain a score of 3 or higher on at least 2 Advanced Placement Exams
- Earn 12 or more semester hours of transcripted postsecondary credit
- Earn a nationally recognized industry certification
*Seniors must have let their counselor know by December if they are graduating with distinction.
Transcript Requests
Colleges and universities will ask that your student send an official transcript when they apply. This is the process they should follow:
- Go to the counseling office and fill out a Transcript Request Form located beside Mrs. Sadler’s desk.
- Pay $2.
- It will be ready to pick up in 3 days or Mrs. Sadler can mail it for you.

NCAA
If your student is planning to play sports at an NCAA Division I or II college, he/she must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. NCAA requires 16 core courses. Make sure your student has met those requirements by talking with their coach and counselor.
