Gables Weekly Summary

10/15/2021

Family Ambassador Check and Connect Calls

The Engagement Team's initiative is to Check and Connect with all of the families in our schools. As part of this initiative I will begin calling Gables families throughout the week, starting next week. The calls offer an opportunity for you to learn more about our school, and for me to learn about how your family is doing and how we can connect you with information or resources you may need. I will be calling the primary contact number listed on your child(ren)'s account(s), so make sure you've completed the Annual Update in the Parent Portal recently!

Updated Quarantine Guidelines - 10/8/2021

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Columbus Public Health (CPH) have released new guidance for K-12 schools in an effort to reduce the transmission of COVID-19:

  • Students who develop symptoms of COVID-19 at school or home will be required to show a negative COVID test or isolate for a 10-day period before returning to school and extracurricular activities. Symptomatic students must remain in isolation until test results are confirmed.
  • Other students in the household attending school within CCS will also be required to quarantine until the symptomatic student has been medically cleared (tested negative) or completed the required isolation, per new ODH and CPH guidance.

School-based and a limited number of at-home rapid tests may be available for students who develop symptoms while at school. Families can also opt for testing completed by a medical provider. A negative COVID-19 test can allow students and their sibling(s) to return to school if they have improving symptoms and are fever free for 24 hours. Only the student in the home with symptoms needs to complete a test.

Visit the CCS site for more details on quarantine guidelines as well as the Health Hub.

Facilities Master Plan (FMP) Update

Our region's Phase 4 FMP meeting (Anticipate) occurred Monday, Oct. 11. This was the last of the regional meetings where participants compared a newer CCS school building with an older school building in order to anticipate what buildings will best support our vision of a CSS Graduate. This video provides a brief (2.5 minute) overview of the Phase 4 meetings.

Phase 5 (Consider) begins next week, and our region's meeting will be Monday, October 25 (Monday after next) at 6pm at Centennial High School. This event will be interactive and ALL AGES are encouraged to attend. Kids, adults, single people, business owners -- anyone and everyone from the community -- is invited to participate.

From the FMP website:

Your participation will help the District decide the future of its schools and how those buildings put the more than 47,000 students at the heart of the District’s long-term vision and priorities.

It is no secret that many CCS buildings are outdated, unreliable, and impractical. In other words, some schools are more than 60 years old, are forced to close when temperatures are too hot, and have small classrooms that are not conducive to 21st-century learning. By helping the District decide the next steps for these buildings, you are part of the solution. What does that mean for our current school buildings and new school buildings? You can help decide.
