From the Principal's Desk
Dear DiPietro Families,
It was brought to my attention that I forgot to send an email blast out with the link to the newsletter last week. Therefore, I am keeping a large portion of last weeks newsletter and adding to it. Should that ever happen again, please know that the newsletter is also available on our school website. :)
Happy February! Thank you so much for all of your donations. Mrs. Bell, our Nutrition Director, shared that the DiPietro students brought in 720 items for our Soup-er Bowl Friday morning. Thank you Mrs. Bell for organizing this event. Thank you to our parent volunteers who came to pass out beads and count, collect and organize all of the food. We had a special lunch with soup thanks to our amazing cafeteria staff. And....we had lots of fun sports gear that staff and students wore. My favorite memory to share....I was walking down the hall with one of our first graders. He was coming from grabbing a snack and I was heading down to visit a classroom. He made a connection with me since we were both wearing Patriots shirts. He then told me he is "not a football guy, he's a soccer guy". When I asked him why he was wearing a Patriots shirt his response was, "Oh, my mom made me." It made me laugh because I am sure many teachers of my sons heard that same statement.
We had a wonderful assembly that was lead by Mrs. Streichert and Mrs. Cavossa this month. Our 2nd graders presented a Valentine Dance with Mrs. Deary. A very talented 2nd grader, Joseph, sang a solo...IN FRONT OF ALL OF US! So brave. We have a newly published author in our midst as well. Garret read us his new book, Super Librarian! And last but not least......(drum roll please) the GIRLS were the winner of the Golden Plunger award for the month!!!!
Please take some time to use the Ask Me About questions with your children. They are listed below. These will help you guide your children to tell you about what they are learning. Our goal is to set the stage for later years...students will be used to explaining details. The more our students read, and describe as they speak, the stronger their vocabulary and writing skills become.
Let's have a great week.
Your principal,

Indoor Recess Guidelines
Indoor Recess Guidelines
Winter and snow are upon us, perhaps a bit earlier than expected. We prefer to have students go outside for recess whenever possible and will continue to go outside when there is snow on the ground. See below for clothing expectations for playing in the snow.
There will be days when it is not safe or comfortable to have outdoor recess. As general rules, we will have outdoor recess unless (1) the actual temperature is 20’F or below, (2) the “real feel” temperature is 20’F or below, or (3) it is actively precipitating. In addition, we will have indoor recess if we deem the playground unsafe for ice or other reasons.
What to wear to play in the snow and a Request from Nurse Barros
For OUTDOOR RECESS we will use the Rule of 5 when it comes to playing in the snow. All of these items must be on, but can be sent to school in a bag:
1. Hat/hood must be worn.
2. Gloves/Mittens
3. Winter Coat
4. Snow pants
5. Winter boots
Request from Nurse Barros:
Winter is here and the best practice to keep your children safe and warm is to provide snow pants, gloves, and a hat at recess time for your children. When they are playing at recess, they may get wet, so PLEASE pack an extra pair of socks, underwear, pants, and shirt in their backpack in the event that they may need to change after recess/lunch. They can keep these items in their backpacks all year long as a backup if needed. Thank you!
