Authentic Leadeship Learning Series with Dr. Melissa Usiak
The overall purpose of this learning series for principals and other educational leaders is to deepen leadership knowledge, skills, and dispositions individually and collectively as a leadership team to:
- Increase trust and foster relationships in leadership reflected in shared values, mission, vision
- Practice strategies for giving feedback and having critical conversations with others
- Consider how change impacts leadership and initiatives
- Learn to build capacity in the organization
Sessions will be a combination of face-to-face and virtual sessions. Learning will be situated around the relevant topic of customized learning through common readings and opportunities to process and build leader knowledge in this area.

Classroom Learning Network: Cohort 1 - First Grade Teachers
This Professional Development series is open to all first grade teachers that participated in last year's Literacy Leaders Network.
[If you did not participate in this Network last year but are interested in joining, please contact Amanda Morris at 517-265-6983.]
Participants will gain more insight into action research and will develop and conduct their own classroom action research study.
Our learning will be guided by the Essential Instructional Practices, as well as best practices in action research. Come join us as we extend our projects from last year, or create new projects to answer our most pressing instructional questions.

The learning will be guided by the (newly released) MAISA GELN Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy, Grade 4 & 5, as well as the work of Dr. Ernest Morrell, Director of the Center for Literacy Education in the University of Notre Dame’s Institute for Educational Initiatives, and co-author with Pam Allyn of "Every Child a Super Reader: 7 Strengths to Open a World of Possible."

District Literacy Coaches Network
This professional learning series is for district and building literacy coaches only.
Our learning will be guided by the Essential Coaching Practices for Elementary Literacy and will provide participants the knowledge and practice needed to effectively coach classroom teachers to increase instructional capacity and student achievement.

The virtual Garden Club will be a monthly series open to early childhood (PK-1st grade) educators and leaders (for example: Great Start, Head Start, PK, Y5, K & 1st Grade) during the school year with a face-to-face workshop offered in the summer with experts in the field.
Attendees will receive Choice Time: How to Deepen Learning Through Inquiry and Play, PreK-2, by Renee Dinnerstein.
The format will be online, using Zoom technology (free software), and include a box-of-the-month club approach to build capacity in science literacy, learning spaces, and flexible, open-ended resources.
Each month members will receive instructional resources that can be adapted and used throughout the day to develop curiosity in science literacy, learning spaces, and flexible, open-ended resources.
As trust is built, members will be encouraged to share video snippets, photos, and student artifacts as inspiration to others. LISD consultants will be available to visit your classroom, facilitate nature walks, or help identify natural spaces to customize for student learning.

NGSX - Next Generation Science Exemplar
This series will explore the Next Generation Science Exemplar.
NGSX is a new kind of PD environment. It is a web-based system designed to engage learners in the three major dimensions of the National Research Council's Framework for K-12 Science Education:
- Core ideas of science
- Scientific and engineering practices
- The crosscutting concepts
At the same time, NGSX participants are engaged with student performance expectations found in the Next Generation Science Standards.

Economic Episodes in American History
Economics can illuminate history by using inquiry to ask the question "Why?"
Participants will use the six principles of economic thinking to examine questions around examples in American history. Participants will receive copies of the supplemental text to develop new inquiries using the C3 Framework's Inquiry Arc.

The C3 Framework for State Social Studies Standards provides an Arc of Inquiry for teachers to design instruction through powerful questions.

Thriving, Not Just Surviving: Action Research Approach to Classroom Management for New & Experienced Teachers
This professional learning opportunity will provide new teachers, as well as experienced teachers, the tools and research to excel at classroom management.
Participants will conduct an action research project that will lead them in developing a classroom management system that allows the facilitator to focus on instruction.
This series will consist of four in-person sessions as well as three Zoom sessions.
