What to Expect from DWE during "Closed & Instructing"
Starting the week of April 6th, students and teachers will be in a "Closed and Instructing" asynchronous learning environment. The following is what you can expect from your Deep Wood teachers:
Weekly lessons will be sent out to families using Google classroom on Mondays at 8:00 am
Lessons will be presented in the form of Google Slides with teacher videos, links, and other resources to help engage students
Assignments for the four core areas: math, reading/writing, science, and social studies (about 9 hours per week) *There will be no new instruction of concepts during this time; all lessons will be a review of concepts previously taught.
Additional activities in the following areas: enrichment, art, music, and PE and social/emotional learning (additional 10-15 minutes per area)
Optional and supplemental education enrichment resources will continue to be available on the RRISD Home Learning Hub
Students will be able to submit assignments through Google Classroom and receive feedback in a timely manner. At this time teachers will not be issuing grades but will focus on providing quality feedback to students. Due dates for assignments will be listed on the Google Classroom.
New weekly lessons will be delivered through Google Classroom each Monday that RRISD is in a “Closed and Instructing” environment
Please be patient as we are still learning to teach your children in this capacity. Our teachers are also studying what providing quality feedback will look like in this type of learning environment. Until we can assure that we are equipped to safely utilize real-time video conferencing and provide access to video-conferencing in the homes of all of our students, no live teaching will be performed. Teachers will, however, have the ability to send recorded messages or lessons to students, which will allow them to view and repeat as needed in the timeframe that works best for their individual needs.
We understand that this is an extremely stressful time for many of our families. We will continue to focus on streamlining our communication and using as few as possible sites and quality resources to keep it manageable for all our families. Thank you for all that you are doing at home to support your learners. Please remember that you do not have to recreate school. This is an incredibly stressful time for everyone. Love your kids, cook, read, play math games, and be their safe place.
