Resources From The Social Worker
November 2022
HELLO
Now that we are in the swing of things entering into November, many students have a lot of different emotions about school. They may feel overwhelmed juggling school, homework, and after school activities. During these times it is important to pause and take some time each week to be mindful and practice calming grounding techniques. Dr. Ilana Nankin, Founder & CEO of Breath For Change has created a Youtube channel full of strategies to enhance the health and well-being of students. Click the link below to discover strategies you can use with your children.
If your child is struggling please reach out for support and let us know so we can check in with them. If you do not find any of these resources that work for you and your family please reach out for additional referrals. We are here to help support you and your child however we can.
My role is to support students and provide them with a consistent person they can trust with personal matters. As the social worker, I am often the one who intervenes when situations arise throughout the school day. If there are ever any questions or concerns about my role or regarding your child/children, please feel free to reach out!
Thanks,
Kristen Abbo. LLMSW
Additional Resources
School can be difficult for anyone.
But if you're a student who does not have access to basic school supplies, clothing, or is food insecure, it can be a day-to-day struggle to survive. The Student Pantry locations found in Wixom Elementary, Glengary Elementary, Hickory Woods Elementary, Loon Lake Elementary, Walled Lake Elementary, and Walnut Creek Middle School allow students to obtain the supplies they need at no cost to them while respecting their privacy.
Walled Lake families that are in need should contact their counselor, social worker, or principal. Each school in the district has received invitations from the Student Pantry. Families that qualify for free or reduced lunch can receive an application from their school.
The Student Pantry’s headquarters are located at 8318 Cooley Lake Road Commerce Township, MI 48382.
Those who are interested in volunteering or making a donation should visit the Student Pantry website, www.thestudentpantry.weebly.com.
