We are very happy to begin offering a school breakfast program to students in the fall. The program will begin on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 5, 2017, and is available to all students (K-5). If your child qualifies for the free or reduced price lunch program, they automatically qualify for the same level of benefits for the breakfast program.
A variety of meal choices will be offered including, cereal, hot breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, fruit, juices and milk.
More information will be sent home in August about our breakfast program!
Strive for 5! - A Program for New Kindergarten Students
The Webster Central School District Strive for Five for School Bus Safety event is coming this August! The program, for 2017-2018 incoming kindergarteners, provides an opportunity for the district's youngest riders to travel a short distance on a school bus with their parent(s) and to learn important safety procedures for riding the school bus.
The program will start at Willink Middle School, where the bus will pick up participants and bring them to (and from) the transportation department. The buses leave Willink at 6:00 p.m.
Incoming kindergarteners and their parents (no additional children, please) should attend as follows:
August 7 - Plank South
August 8 - Plank North and Dewitt
August 9 - State and Klem North
August 10 - Schlegel and Klem South
Private and Parochial students can come any one of the four dates.

SOAP Collection
Thank you who were able for donating to our travel soap/hygiene collection. We collected over 500 items. Mrs. Piwko's 5th grade class then bagged these items into Ziploc baggies, each containing a soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and toothpaste. We were able to make 120 personal kits and had several extra items left over to donate separately. They items were brought to the Open Door Mission in Rochester. This was so successful this year that I will do it again next year so save the hotel soaps if you travel this summer!

NOTES FROM OUR NEW NURSE, Mrs. Cole!
Needed For MEDICATIONS IN SCHOOL for NEXT YEAR 2017-2018:
Written doctor’s orders for any prescription or nonprescription or over the counter medications during school hours.
Written parent consent
Elementary students are not allowed to carry any medication to or from school. All medication must be brought into the health office by a parent.
Physicals are Required for 17-18 Kindergarteners, 2nd and 4th Graders &
all New Students to Klem South:
Physicals must be done on or after September 1, 2016 to qualify for the 2017-2018 school year.
ALL physicals are welcome for any grade anytime! Sometimes NYS will change the years it mandates physicals so it’s best to just send in a physical every time your child has one!
Immunizations
Please check with your child’s pediatrician to make sure your child is up to date.
Incoming 6th Graders are required to have a Tdap booster.
Health Concerns
Please be sure to keep me up to date on any changes or new information regarding your child’s health. ANY significant injuries are always important to tell your school nurse. I will ALWAYS need a doctor’s note for any sprains, fractures, cuts, head injuries and the like with a written diagnosis and any restrictions and it must be signed by the doctor. If you take your child to the doctor and there are no restrictions - I need that in writing by the doctor as well. If your child has surgery over the summer that is also important for the school nurse to know. If your child is all healed before school starts it would still be great to have a doctor’s note stating what was done and that there are no restrictions. Sometimes unforeseen things can happen and without any knowledge of a significant health event in your child’s life I might miss something if your child has a complaint of pain or illness while in the health office.

Annual Child Care Transportation Application
Parents are reminded to complete Childcare Transportation applications for the 2017 – 2018 school year. Any student going to and/or coming from a childcare provider must fill out one of these electronic forms. A new application for childcare must be completed every year. A separate request must be filed for each student for whom transportation is requested.
The link to the form is located below:
https://secure.websterschools.org/forms/forms.cfm?myform=1040&DSID=239&myschoolid=0
Please complete your 2017 - 2018 application by June 1st of this year.
From the Transportation Department:
This request pertains to the 2017-18 school year only. A separate request must be filed for each student for whom transportation is requested.
A new application for child care transportation must be completed each year, by June 1, for transportation in the subsequent school year. The transportation requested must be on a "regular basis" meaning that the student's weekly schedule is the same for the entire school year.
In accordance with Board of Education Policy and Regulation 3545, a request for change will be accommodated only if there is both room on the bus and there is an existing bus route serving the requested child care location. No changes will be made in existing bus routes or bus stops. You will be notified when your request is approved or denied. Normal processing time is 5 days.
The student must board and disembark the bus from established stops.
If you are unsure about where your child/children will be transported to/from, complete the application with as much information as possible. As soon as you have complete information, a revised form should be filled out and submitted.

2017-18 BUDGET APPROVED BY WEBSTER CSD COMMUNITY & NEW BOE MEMBERS ELECTED
Thank you to the Webster Central School District community for exercising your right to vote on Tuesday, May 16, regarding the proposed 2017-18 budget and board of education election. Our Webster CSD community approved the proposed 2017-18 spending plan by a 71% margin and elected three board members: Mike Suffoletto, Jan Strege, and Bill Kent. Congratulations to Mike and Jan who will each serve three year terms and Bill who will serve a one year term. Our board also thanks Ann Carmody as she completes her term of service to our board and Webster CSD students. Thank you, Ann, for your support and commitment!
On behalf of Webster’s nearly 8,400 students, your board of education appreciates your approval of this spending plan. As a community, you have once again shown your support of our students in 11 schools across the district.
The board also extends its thanks to members of this year’s Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) for their invaluable feedback and participation during this year’s budgeting process. If you want to learn more about how school budgets are planned, we encourage you to serve on the 2018-19 BAC. Please e-mail Lisa Borrino in the district finance office, lisa_borrino@webstercsd.org, or call her at 216-0017, if you would be interested in becoming a member of next year’s BAC.
Lastly, your board congratulates Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas high schools’ graduating Class of 2017. We held their commencements on Sunday, June 25, at RIT.
We hope you all have an enjoyable summer recess and look forward to connecting with you again in September with our monthly column.
