Dear Edison Families and Students,

I am happy to be sharing my newsletter through a new tool, Smore! This will allow me to send regular updates, share pictures, and give a head's up for important information. This is my first run with it. What do you think? It's both easy to use and useful to have!

MOST RECENT: Principal Parent Chat

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, I hosted another "Principal Parent Chat" event.

We had a great discussion, and families asked great questions. I also addressed some concerns and followed up with parents via phone calls afterward. Below are the topics and responses we discussed that day.

Town Hall's

Join me as I discuss important topics related to each grade level. An email containing the link to the Town Hall will be sent to students and families separately.

Guidance Counselor Workshops on Mental Health & Wellness

Beginning this Spring Term, our Guidance Counselor team will be implementing Mindfulness sessions, Think and Talk sessions on Mondays and Fridays. Also, we will be adding workshops on varied Mental Health & wellness topics. These sessions will include peer supports. Please monitor your email(s) and visit your Cohort Google Classroom for updates.

SAT Prep Classes

All 11th-grade students were given access to a test prep course which is self-paced called: Method Prep. Information/Access was emailed directly to students ( Gmail account). Please reach out to your guidance counselor if you need assistance.

SAT Exam Administration

Our SAT School Day will take place on both April 13th and April 27th. On SAT School Days, the SAT will be given free of charge to all 11th graders that signed up. Invitations have been sent to students via their emails. The exam will begin promptly at 8:15 AM and will last approximately 4 - 5 hours. As per current state and city social distancing and health guidelines, testing rooms will not exceed capacity, and students with NO COVID-19 Testing Consent Form will NOT be allowed into the building.

SAT School Day / April 13, 2021

  • Students whose last names start with the letters A through L.
  • Any student with College Board approved circumstances.

SAT School Day / April 27, 2021

What's New at Edison?

Reopening Edison

On March 22nd, we are planning on reopening Edison. Please make sure you are listed as a Blended Learning Student and that you have completed your COVID Consent Form (See Below for Directions).

Reopening Edison for CTE Training

CTE training is currently being offered on Saturdays, and students need to sign up on Thursdays via the CTE Training Google Form. This form is emailed to students, and it is on a first-come, first-served basis. All students, regardless if they are on remote or blended learning instruction, must complete their consent form for COVID-19 testing.

PTC Registration Deadlines:
  • Afternoon Session will Close: Thursday, March 18th, 2020, at 12:00 PM

Family Support Workshops (6 Workshop Sessions)

  • In collaboration with the PTA/PAC, we are able to provide our families with a series of workshops to highlight the best practice that can be used to support your child with their remote learning experience. All 6 sessions will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00pm-8:00pm starting March 9th and ending March 25th.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Curriculum

  • We have partnered with Intel, and we will be introducing an AI curriculum within our CTE Digital Media program. Next school year, we will be offering an after-school AI club.
  • A brand new AI lab is currently being designed to support the new and advanced curriculum.

Saturday CTE School

  • Beginning March 13, 2021, we will be opening our school on Saturdays to provide our students the opportunity to offer hands-on training. Our CTE programs culminate in an industry certification that contains a performance assessment. Therefore, we are opening our CTE labs to prepare our students for their certification exams.
Saturday CTE Schedule:
  • 08:00am - 09:30am / SENIORS (12th Grade)
  • 09:30am - 11:00am / JUNIORS (11th Grade)
  • 11:00am - 12:30pm / SOPHMORES (10th Grade)

Principal Parent Chat

Family Workshop by Elevate

We will be providing our families with an exclusive program designed to help our families reinforce effective remote study skills at home. The program consists of a series of 6 virtual workshops that last 50-60 minutes. The sessions will be delivered live and are open to all families. Sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday between 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm starting March 9, 2021. Also, we will be offering these sessions in both English and Spanish.

Toast with the Principal

I want to thank all of the families that joined me on January 7, 2021. We had a great turnout, and great questions were asked. Therefore, I have decided to hold a monthly virtual event. Moving forward, every month, I will host "Principal Parent Chat" events to continue to serve the needs of our families.

I also felt that the questions and topics covered could benefit additional parents, and I decided to start a newsletter to capture all the information in one location.

Topics Discussed on 01.07.2021

Working Papers

Students can apply for their working papers by contacting Mr. Haripersaud, Assistant Principal of CTE at The process will be conducted virtually, and then upon meeting all requirements, the working papers can be mailed or picked up from the school.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

We are collecting AP Exam fees electronically, and families and students should have received instructions on how to make a payment. Please contact Mr. Collado, Assistant Principal of Organization at, with any questions.

CTE Certifications Exams

We have purchased the CTE Exams, and we will be administering them between May and June of this school year. Please contact Mr. Haripersaud, Assistant Principal of CTE at, with any questions.

Work-Based Learning (Internships)

Please contact our Work-Based Learning Coordinator at, for information on internships' availability.



Currently, we are scheduled to hold our graduation at Hofstra University on June 18th at 10:00 AM. We are aware that our in-person graduation depends on the guidance put forth by the CDC/ NYS/NYC, and we will monitor the COVID-19 protocols for social gatherings. As a precaution, we are already working on a backup plan to hold smaller in-person graduation should we have to cancel our Hofstra University location. We are also planning on holding virtual graduation for families and students that may not feel comfortable attending the in-person graduation. Families and students are welcomed to attend both graduations.

Senior Dues

We will be using our school's website to collect senior dues, and families will have an opportunity to pay for only the items they wish to purchase. (i.e., yearbook, senior apparel, graduation cap, and gown, etc.) The ordering section will be going live in April, and we will send out an announcement once it goes live.
