FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM (STUBBS EARLY EDUCATION CENTER)

FAMILY LITERACY STUDENT OF THE MONTH

For the month of March, we are highlighting the hard work and perseverance of Derlwin Browne. Mr. Browne is the father of six children between the ages of one and twelve. He is currently managing hybrid and remote learning for all of his school age children during these challenging times. In addition, he receives and completes learning packets for his five-year-old twins and participates in the Parents as Teachers Program in which support is provided for his infant child. Recently, Mr. Browne obtained housing for his family, and a job helping to renovate houses. He comes to class whenever his schedule allows and has encouraged his brother to attend with him as well. Mr. Browne plans to complete the Reading GED® test this month. We are very proud to have Mr. Browne in our program! His dedication to his family and his education is beyond commendable.

Pictured below are two of Mr. Browne's school aged children who attend Stubbs Early Education Center.

GLASGOW

GLASGOW SHINING STARS

Congratulations to Antonina Z., Olexsandr P., and Cristina Gargia for passing their 20 Question Civics Test! Other ESL Students are also preparing to take their tests soon. Congratulations to all the students who have successfully passed!

This month, ESL students enjoyed learning about National Holidays in America and comparing these to holidays in their home countries. Did you know that Poland's Independence Day is November 11, the same day Americans celebrate Veteran's Day? Moreover, ESL students are learning how to use O*Net to complete individual career plans. Students are exploring various careers and jobs. We are proud of how well the students are completing tasks even though English is their second language.

HYBRID LEARNING AVAILABLE!

The hybrid schedule has been attached below. If you are interested in attending, come join as every Monday and Thursday at your current scheduled class time. I look forward to seeing you soon!

NEW CASTLE COUNTY LEARNING CENTER (NCCLC)

March was a Major Math Month at the New Castle County Learning Center! How could it not be when we celebrate Pi Day on 3/14? NCCLC currently has a number of students who only need to pass the GED® Math Test to earn a GED® credential. It was rewarding and inspiring to see the amazing efforts and progress made by our students this month as they worked remotely in math Zoom lessons and during one-on-one or small group sessions with a focus on Algebra and Geometry. In addition, students received instruction on how to use the GED-approved calculator. NCCLC had one student pass the math test this month to earn his GED credential, and we are confident that many of his classmates will soon be celebrating with him!
