Glenburnie PS Weekly Update
February 3-7, 2020
Labour Update - Elementary Schools to Close February 6th and 7th
As a result of additional rotating strikes announced by members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), all elementary schools in the Limestone District School Board will be closed to students on Thursday, February 6, 2020 and Friday, February 7, 2020. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 should not report to school on these days.
The union has also notified the Board that teachers will no longer participate in extra-curricular activities at any time beginning February 3. Previously, teachers were participating in extra-curriculars if they occurred during the regular school day.
We are hopeful that the parties at the central table are able to reach an agreement soon. We thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we respond to these events. The Board will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

Important Information about Report Cards
As you know, members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) ) are participating in legal job action across the province, including here in Limestone. Due to the withdrawal of administrative duties, LDSB schools will not be issuing term one report cards for elementary students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. Parents and guardians can contact their child’s teacher to learn of their progress.
The production of report cards for Limestone’s 13,000 elementary students relies on the electronic inputting of assessment data by teachers. This translates into about 300,000 individual pieces of data. Our principals and vice-principals cannot do the work of more than 800 classroom teachers. Nor can this work be outsourced to other Board staff or external agencies due to the significant unbudgeted cost, and concerns about accuracy and, more importantly, privacy given the confidential information that is part of a child’s report card.
We know how important these reports are to families and students, but it’s also important to remember that report cards are not the sole record of achievement data for your child. As always, parents and guardians can contact their child’s teacher to discuss their progress and/or concerns.
School Year Calendar Survey for 2020-2021
The Limestone District School Board is requesting feedback on two options for the 2020-2021 School Year Calendar. With Labour Day landing on September 7th, 2020, school will need to begin prior to Labour Day in order to ensure that the calendar has the required amount of days as prescribed by the Ministry of Education.
In consultation with the School Boards that we share transportation with – Hastings and Prince Edward and Algonquin Lakeshore – and our School Year Calendar Committee, we are seeking input on starting school on either Monday, August 31st, 2020 or Tuesday, September 1st, 2020. Both of these options would be PA Days, with students starting school the following day. Each option has implications for the end of the school year and the placement of the final PA Day. These are explained in the survey.
LDSB is looking for feedback from students, staff, parents and our community members. It would be appreciated if you would please take a moment to respond to the two options on an on-line survey. The survey is open for responses until Friday, Feb. 7th. Your input is important to us and we appreciate your time in submitting your feedback and comments. For more information, please visit the LDSB website which also provides a link to the Ministry of Education website.
