Halo Highlight: Academic and Scheduling Clarifications
Dear Saints Families,
Course selection is a very important process, and we at St. Louis Catholic want both students and parents to be informed and comfortable in making the best choices. We are here to guide and answer questions. A couple of common questions have arisen, and hopefully this will provide clarity. Please use the new Course Planning Guide, given to all students, to assist in choosing appropriate courses, and as always, contact Mia Orgeron or the Counseling Office as needed.
Religion IV/History of Religion -
Per the Diocese of Lake Charles and the state policy for nonpublic schools, Religion IV, as taught at St. Louis Catholic, satisfies both the TOPS University Social Studies requirement of History of Religion and meets the USCCB guidance on theology content for Catholic Schools. On the student transcript, the course title is listed as History of Religion for one social studies credit.
There are other options for Senior religion through Dual Enrollment that also count toward the Honors Diploma, so please speak to your child about his or her wishes.
Honors Diploma –
Reminder - With the addition of eight Dual Enrollment courses and the option for the Diploma Endorsement of the Seal of Biliteracy, the St. Louis Catholic Honors Diploma requirements increased starting with the Class of 2021. Taken from the 2018-19 handbook, “Starting with the Class of 2021, a minimum of seven advanced level courses are needed, with a minimum GPA of 3.75 and three years of the same foreign language on the transcript. Advanced level courses include Honors, AP and Dual Enrollment courses. Of those seven courses, no more than two Dual Enrollment courses will count toward the Honors Diploma.”

Dance Course Outline from Mrs. Barrow
I am so excited about the opportunity to share my passion for dance with you! If you are a student with no experience, Dance I is for you. I hope you gain an appreciation for the art form; discover an unknown talent; and increase your flexibility, agility and coordination, skills that will help you in all athletic endeavors.
If you are a more experienced dancer, sign up for Dance II or III. We will hold a placement audition for experienced dancers. I hope to expose you to a variety of dance styles, enhance your current skills and offer you choreography opportunities. If anything, you will receive course credit in a creative, fun environment that meets daily exercise needs! Please refer to this information sheet and the SLCHS High School Course Planning Guide for more information.
