Get Ready! May 24 is Scavenger Hunt Day
Check out this free activity provided by the US Census Bureau for Scavenger Hunt Day. It is part of their K-12 resources using Census Data.
Mission possible—find Gina, the geographer, who has escaped to an undisclosed location.
Have fun celebrating this occasion while teaching your students about U.S. geography with this Statistics in Schools activity, Scavenger Hunt: Where is Gina the Geographer? Students follow a series of clues about the location—including landmarks, weather, and population—and use a U.S. Census Bureau data tool called “State Facts for Students” to answer questions that lead them one step closer to finding Gina.
Important Chromebook Pickup Info for May 28
Tuesday, May 28 during 5th period is Chromebook pickup! The district is running a new process called the “Three Step Collect”. You will receive more detailed instructions as we get closer to pickup, but please look through the Chromebook Pickup Website to see the new pickup procedures. There is a video showing what teachers will do before leaving the classroom and a video showing how the process will work once you arrive in small gym.
Please review the website, watch the videos and complete the Hofius 1:1 Chromebook Pickup Quiz by Thursday, May 23 so you can ask questions by Friday. This is a new process for all of us, so we will do our best to answer your questions. If we don’t know the answer, we will find someone who does!
Your 5th period pre-filled forms will be placed in your mailbox on Friday, May 24. Please pick them up by Tuesday morning at the latest!
We have scheduled 5 classes to come down every 5 minutes during 5th period. During pickup, we will be running a Nearpod Live Lesson displaying the Hofius Chromebook Pickup Schedule to let you know when you can bring your students down. You can also review the schedule below and note your time.
A Few Final Notes:
- The Repair Center will be closed on Friday to prepare for pick up day.
- Hofius is a pilot campus where ONLY 6th and 7th grade students will keep their cases over the summer, so they will NOT be turning them in this school year. 6th and 7th grade students will leave their cases in their classroom to bring them back home (this is not optional). Because 8th grade students are moving on to a new campus, they will be returning their cases during pick up and need to bring them down to the gym.
- If a 6th or 7th grade student knows in advance that they will not return to Hofius next year, they need to turn in their case to the Repair Center on Wednesday (the day AFTER pick up).
- If a student forgets their stylus, charger or case they can return it the day AFTER pick up day. On the day of pick up, we will NOT be accepting any items brought up by parents after the student has gone through the pick up line. Please encourage students NOT to call home, but instead to bring the item(s) up the FOLLOWING DAY to clear their hold.
- Students who are absent on pick up day will turn in their Chromebook to the repair center when they return to school.
Software Access for Students During the Summer
Great news! IXL and Lexia will be available throughout the summer for student access. Similarly, students will have access to Schoology to access Group information through Saturday, August 17. Student passwords will be reset back to the default credentials by the IT Department after this date.
Leaving KISD But Still Want Access to Your Google Files???
- Teachers leaving Klein can use Google Takeout to create an archive file of their Klein Google content. Archived content can be stored on an external hard drive or uploaded to a personal online storage location.
- This Google support page provides additional information about the process and results.
- Items which are not included in the export can usually be downloaded and added to saved files. Depending on sharing privileges for the document, teachers may need to make a copy of some items in order to download them.
- Remember that resources created for use in Klein while an individual has been employed in Klein remain property of the district. Teachers should not remove resources that teams have used and continue using.
- Student products and assignments are part of students’ education records and should remain in Klein in accordance with FERPA.
- Staff who plan to use the Google Takeout process to download a copy of their files should not wait until the last contract day to do so. Encourage staff to begin this process early next week so that it can be re-done if an initial attempt does not work.
