This Week at MHS
Here's what's happening September 13-17th!
Dear MHS Parents and Students,
We want to thank everyone for coming out to cheer on our Football team at Alcoa. What a game and what a week! Thanks to our cheerleaders for a great pep rally that put everyone in the right mindset for cheering Friday night.
This Friday we play at Bearden High School. Here is the link to purchase a ticket online: https://gofan.co/app/events/343738?schoolId=TN11302. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate on game night.
Herff Jones will be at lunch on Monday, September 13th, to assist seniors with any cap and gown orders. More information about this, including information on how to order online, can be found below. Herff Jones will return on September 27th to meet with juniors.
Please review the dress code reminders below and discuss them with your student. We understand that while fashion changes, our dress code expectations have not. We appreciate your assistance in discussing the highlighted points below with your student.
Wishing everyone a great week!

DRESS CODE REMINDER
As we enter one month into school, we want to draw your attention to some dress code reminders for all students. Please review the following components with your student, as they represent the most common concerns. All dress code violations will result in school assigned consequences.
- Pants must be worn at the waist, must be appropriately sized, and at a safe length. Tears, rips, or holes must be at or below mid-thigh (inseam to knee).
- Leggings and other compression-style pants must be opaque and properly fitted with an opaque, top garment of sufficient length to cover at least to the midpoint of the buttocks (inseam to waist) and with comparable coverage in the front.
- Shirts and tops must completely cover the abdomen and back. Shirts or tops must be tucked in or cover the waistband of pants, shorts, or skirts with no midriff visible when the student is standing, walking, sitting, or bending.
- Undergarments must not be visible including sports bras, bralettes, and boxers.
Thank you for your assistance!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
September 20-24 is TN College Application Week at MHS. This statewide initiative is designed to bring awareness to the college application process and should involve all students, not just our senior class. School counselors have several activities scheduled including "college chats" with classroom teachers, working with students on applications at lunch and of course, everyone's favorite: The College Fight Song Challenge!! Please partner with us and ask your child about that day's activities as we raise awareness for post-secondary education.
Maryville College will host the Blount County College Fair on Wednesday, September 29 from 5:30-7:00 pm. This in-person college fair will allow high school students and their parents to connect with over 50 colleges, universities, technical schools and art schools so that you can get the information you need during your college search. Afterwards from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, parents are invited to join Maryville College Financial Aid staff to learn tips and tricks on navigating the financial aid process no matter what college the student chooses. Please register for this event at https://apply.maryvillecollege.edu/register/BCCF-2021
The 2021 Heisman High School Scholarship presented by Acceptance Insurance is now open! The Heisman High School Scholarship continues a 27-year tradition of honoring high school seniors who accomplish tremendous feats in the classroom, on the field, and most importantly, within their communities. Visit HeismanScholarship.com to learn more and apply. One male and one female scholar athlete from MHS will win the Heisman School Award and move on to compete at the state level for scholarship dollars.
Does your child have what it takes to become a dynamic leader? Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs where teenagers can develop skills as a leader while having fun and making connections. What an awesome opportunity for your child to build his/her resume! Colleges are always looking for candidates with evidence of leadership experience. Encourage your child to speak with his/her school counselor to learn more.
