Goal for Tonight: To ensure each parent/guardian feels better equipped to prepare and support their child in their educational journey at STEM Academy.
Purpose of STEM Academy
Why we exist:
-To create a small, academic learning community
-Promote students’ achievement by creating a collaborative environment in which all stakeholders – parents, students, teachers, administration - work together
-Provide an enriching STEM educational experience through the project based learning model
-Ensure all our students are academically prepared for higher education
-Develop students’ career readiness, to include communication skills

Pick-Up / Drop-Off at Lee High School
Visitor Parking is at the front of the school, as well as pick-up/drop-off.
Students may be dropped off in the big lot off of Montview Drive.

School Hours
8:00am - Breakfast in cafeteria
8:30am - Students released to first period
Student are in class from 8:45am - 4:05pm
The STEM office is open 8:00am - 4:30pm
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is taken EACH class period.
A student must be present at least 90% of the course in order to receive credit.
A student with more than 9 absences in one semester course will not receive credit for that course.
If a student reports to class 8 minutes or more late, then s/he is recorded absent.
A student can make-up instructional time at Saturday Success for an $8 fee.
LUNCH
The majority of the STEM student body will have 4th period lunch from 11:35am - 12:25pm.
STEM Academy and Lee HS is a closed campus. Students may NOT go off campus for lunch.
To drop-off a lunch or other items, the parent/guardian will take it to the attendance office. Students are not permitted to be outside the building waiting for an item.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
NEISD now has wi-fi for all campus faculty and students using their school log-in credentials. The same filtering and monitoring is in place. This allows the user's phone data plan to not be used.
The teacher still determines when a personal smart device may be used in class.
Infraction 1 - warning, call to parent and return
Infraction 2 - confiscate device and pick up by parent in the Lee main office
Infraction 3 - confiscate device and face to face meeting with administration; STEM probationary status
All STEM classrooms are equipped with a laptop cart or chrome cart to allow for a 1-1 ratio.
Students do need Internet access at home to complete and submit homework.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes daily
Extra-Curricular Events
Each student is to participate in at least one-extracurricular activity in order to make special friendships and ensure a sense of belonging within a student group.

STEM Community Service
STEM students are to complete annual community service hours, as follows:
9th grade – 15 hours
10th grade – 15 hours
11th grade – 25 hours
12th grade – 25 hours
Faculty will organize a few service opportunities during the year for students to participate in collectively, while representing STEM Academy.
Parent Involvement: WE NEED YOU!
•STEM Advisory Board – need one business representative for each category: science, technology, engineering and mathematics
•Participate in STEM Parent Meetings, generally two a semester
•Identify corporate/business sponsors and mentors to enrich our program
•Assist with Engineering Festival & Field Day
•Be an active member in Lee/ISA/STEM/NESA PTSA
•Volunteer as a field trip chaperone
