Dear Union Families,

Whew! We've had a great week at Union with lots of great opportunities for kids! Dads Club 2x2 Basketball Tourney was a HUGE success! Thank you to all the parents to helped with the event! A HUGE shoutout to our second grade team and students for selling concessions during the event!

Our Kindy students participated in Favorite Book Character Day! Hat Day for Disability Week was today and we closed out our clothing drive for HVAF (Helping Veterans and Families)! Students also had opportunities to participate in Do Day community service activities. Second grade cleaned up Union's grounds and third grade students created thank you cards for the Humane Society.

IREAD testing occurred this week and we are confident our kids did a great job! NWEA testing will occur in the next couple of weeks (please see your teacher's communication about their classroom's testing schedule).

Elementary Science Materials Adoption - All elementary schools are in their last year of our science materials from Purdue University (PU will not be supporting these in future years) and are reviewing new materials. At the same time, the Indiana Department of Education is revising standards over the coming months. During the month of March, we will have materials for parents to review at the Educational Services Center located at 900 Mulberry Street from 8:00 am-3:30 pm each day by appointment or online using the links below. We ask that parents provide us with feedback by the end of March so that when the standards are finalized, we can decide about materials and order in time for the start of school.

To set up a time to review materials, please contact Kelsey Thompson, Administrative Assistant, at kthompson@zcs.k12.in.us. For any questions about elementary science or the standards, please contact Christine Squier, Director of Academic Services, at csquier@zcs.k12.in.us. . Click here for digital access to resources.

Recess Reminders

The weather is certainly changing and we want students to be prepared to play outdoors. As the weather FLUCTUATES this spring, students will need to come to school with appropriate gear to be outside (coats, hats, and gloves may be necessary for a few more days). Please reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Karnuta (lkarnuta@zcs.k12.in.us) if you are in need of assistance to obtain cold weather gear. All children play outside except on rainy, icy, or very cold days (wind chill below the 10-20 degree range). Inside recess will be held on those exceptional days.

Lunch Visitors

In order to ensure safety for our school community, and to ensure capacity for our visitors, we will limit the number of visitors to three adults/visitors per lunch period and lunch visitors will RSVP for specific date/time.

  • Lunch visitors will be welcome to come and eat with their child once again starting October 17, 2022 and January 9, 2023.
  • During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door (Door 1) and sign-in at the front office.
  • Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry.
  • All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
  • Please sit at the designated visitor tables with your child only.
  • Please do not share food with other students.
  • HAVE FUN with you child!
