Waikato Literacy Association - Christmas Special 2021

A word from our President...

We near the end of another tumultuous year and continue on our journey to find the new 'normal'. As we are getting used to the unknown and unpredictable future, we (our wonderful literacy association) have decided to kick off 2022 with an amazing and inspirational speaker who knows a thing or two about resilience. He is well known on the corporate speaking circuit and more than likely some of you may have heard his story before. There will be a literacy flavour woven through this event but he will have a message that is both powerful and timely. If you're wanting some insights into what I'm talking about then grab a copy of "Everyday's a Good Day" by William Pike- I'm sure it would make a great Xmas present for someone close.

Under the Covid Protection Framework (CPF) aka, Traffic Light system we are still able to run events in person for attendees who have My Vaccine Pass, regardless of red, orange or green (however numbers could be limited depending on venue size). On that note we are still on the look out on any schools wanting to host our Term 2 teacher event (comes with a FREE membership and a couple of other perks. e-mail: waikatoliteracy@nzla.org.nz).

We have included our 2022 Calendar below so you can pencil some dates into your diary, but be assured it will be sent out again (along with our William Pike & Young Author's event flyers) in mid-late January/February, once you've had a wee break.

The next time you read Noteworthy, you'll be reading the words from someone who writes much more elegantly than I- as I step down from my role as president. I won't tell you her name until it's official but she is an amazing asset on our committee and an awesome educator and leader to boot.

I will also taking up a new and challenging role in the sunny Bay of Plenty (another shift for my family) but will still be involved in sharing my love of literacy in one form or another.

Have a safe and festive Christmas, be merry and I'll see you next year- with whatever that may bring.
