Thanks to the P.E. Staff

Coach Erica Dodd, Amy Atkins, and Susan Stubbs teach higher-order thinking skills, using physical education, to motivate and engage all learners. They also go above and beyond, planning field day, our school-wide fundraiser Color Run, and generally assisting with anything we need at The Green. Thank you, to our PE staff! We appreciate and love you!

Panoply 2019

Our incredible art teacher, Mrs. Yant, and our young artists at HGES presented unique and interesting artwork at The Panoply Festival of Arts in Huntsville. It’s a great deal of work for Mrs. Yant, but worth it to see the final pieces created by proud, creative students. Thank you, Mrs. Yant for all you do make Panoply possible for our students.

FlexFactor Presentations at US Space and Rocket Center

Engineering Research and Development Team

Congratulations to the HGHS Engineering Research and Development team. They won first with their Payload Concept Proposal, but came up fractionally short in the overall results.

Senior Fun!

HGHS celebrated our seniors who received CCR credentials at our annual CCR Senior Sweepstakes Picnic. We are currently at 92% of our seniors who have obtained CCR credentials. We had a fun day celebrating and announced our grand prize winners at the picnic.

Trojan Walk

Last week our seniors visited their elementary schools as the participated in the Trojan Walk. Our elementary family schools enjoyed watching our seniors walk the halls of Hazel Green Elementary, Lynn Fanning Elementary, and Walnut Grove School. The littles cheered on our Seniors as they walked the halls of the elementary schools to congratulate them on their upcoming high school graduation.

The students and faculty at Lynn Fanning would like to thank all the Hazel Green High School students who attended LFES for coming back to share their success! Everyone enjoyed seeing the “big kids” in their caps and gowns and congratulating them on their graduation. Mrs. Plant, who was the principal when these graduates attended LFES, came back to congratulate the students too!!

LFES Has Talent!!

On May 2, many students at Lynn Fanning shared their talents with hundreds of spectators at the LFES Has Talent Show! Talents ranged from dancing, singing, martial arts, twirling, hula hooping, magic and much more! We are so proud to have such talented students!

Girls On The Run Club

Our Girls on the Run group participated in their 5K at the end of April. They all did great and we could not have done it without our running buddies that came to help that day. Thank you to Ms. White for investing in these girls this semester.

Warrior Power Race Team

Our Warrior Power racing team competed in another race at the end of April that was held at Milton Frank Stadium. We are so proud of the effort of this team. Thank you to Mrs. Petty for all that she has done to help them all year.

We were so excited to see former Lynn Fanning students come by the Mill as part of the #TrojanWalk 2019. It made teachers smile to see former students and encouraged current students to do their best.

Our fourth graders enjoyed a field trip to Early Works Museum and Constitution Village to learn even more about Alabama History. The students enjoyed interacting with the hands-on exhibits and learning even more about their state.

Butterflies 🦋

Pre-Kindergarten has been studying about the life cycle of the butterfly. They released their butterflies the other day. What a great hands-on experience for our students.


Glow Games

Mrs. Reid’s class had a great time reviewing for their upcoming tests by participating in glow games in their classroom. This room transformation really kept the students engaged.

GreenPower Team

The Central School GreenPower has enjoyed a great year and competed in their first competition on April 27th. The AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) has recently awarded Central School with a $1,000 grant to help the GreenPower program. Miss Joneka Hurst is the sponsor.

VR Lab focus of News Story

Central School was recently recognized on Channel 31 for the use of the Virtual Reality Lab. Mrs. Morgen Perez, science teacher, demonstrated using the lab. She has also applied for and was awarded a Battelle STEMx Mini-Grant sponsored by TVA and BVI. This grant will go toward increased STEM opportunities for middle school students at Central School. Specifically, the funds from this grant will purchase a 3D printer and supplies for science students to do 3D printing projects.

EL Family Literacy Night

Legacy Elementary hosted the countywide EL Night, Eat, Taste, and Read.

This EL Family Literacy Night book tasting event provided EL families the chance to sample books, play games, and eat themed snacks. County school representatives manned literacy tables as they shared some of their favorite books and treats to go along with their story’s theme. Families were also given book of their choice to support literacy in the home.

Goblin GreenPower Race Team

Legacy’s Green Power Team placed 10th overall out of 46 teams at the Goblin Games at Frank Milton Stadium in Huntsville. Students worked hard building the Goblin and troubleshooting the front alignment. Way to go Legacy!

Band Competition

Congratulations to the MMS Advanced Band for scoring Superior ratings, best in class, and best overall middle school band at the annual Dollywood Music in the Parks Competition. They also received the highest score of the weekend of all bands that participated.

Congratulations to Adam Depew on winning the GOLD at the Athens HS Invitational today with a jump of 6’. Last week Adam broke the Sparkman school record with a height of 6’1”. Fantastic job Adam!

Skype Visit

Sparkman Middle students experienced a Skype from the Birmingham Holocaust Museum from guest speaker Dr. Todd May. He is a Holocaust survivor and he shared his story with us.

Visit to Huntsville Botanical Garden

Mrs. Grice-Dobbins' Photography and Videography classes took a field trip to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens to get a hands on experience applying what they have learned in the classroom about videos and photos. They truly enjoyed the Chinese Lantern Festival and they even gave the kids free passes to come back and see it at night!

Merge Day Logo

Congratulations to Brittney Ragland, a student in Ms. Wildes 6th grade technology class, for designing the winning Merge Day logo for this year’s event! Merge Day brings together the 5th grade classes from Harvest Elementary and Madison Cross Roads Elementary to prepare for the transition to middle school!

Grand Prix

Sparkman Middle School 7th and 8th graders participated in The Grissom Grand Prix. Their car, #99 Growl, which is completely modified and maintained by the students, was faster than it has ever been. There were zero mechanical problems, thanks to the awesome student mechanics. The team showed excellent sportsmanship and teamwork

The JROTC Drill Team celebrated this school year’s accomplishments at their 1st annual banquet. Cadets received their drill cords, arcs, and commander’s cords along with their State Championship medals.

Track

The Buckhorn Track Team competed in the State finals in Gulf Shores. They made new personal records and improved times. Maya Jackson, 8th grader, competed in State for the first time and made her 6th personal record in a row this season. She competed in 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, hurdles, and relay.

The Buckhorn Girls Soccer team competed in the second round of the 6A Area 16 State Playoffs against Randolph. Even though they did not advance, the team reach milestones and accomplishments this season! There are several middle school students on the team.

STEAM Night

More pictures from our STEAM Night tonight! We were designing objects on the 3D printer with STEM Coach Jessica Williamson, practicing origami and making paper airplanes with art teacher Curt Greene, learning how to make rain with the kindergarten teachers, practicing coding with second grade teachers, playing with millipedes and rolly pillows with first grade, and making art and conducting science experiments with third grade! Shout out to the PTO for providing many of the supplies we needed to make tonight possible!

Mrs. Jerris Brown’s Class Learns about Rockets!



Mrs. Brown's husband presented info on his background with engineering and modeling simulation. He discussed Newton’s laws and how these laws are used to predict trajectory due to force and mass. They discussed the size, speed and measurements of the Saturn 5 and the advancements of technology since its launch. Students then discussed the parts and purpose of their rocket and the varied designs of fins etc. they discussed the “engine” and how it works to create thrust that forces the rocket into the air.


Mrs. Lane’s Volcano Labs on Magma

Mrs. Lane’s class made little volcanoes and small eruptions. In their volcanic landforms lab, they made lava runs, lava fields and pillow lava!
