Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 - June 2, 2020

Status of D103 Schools Re-Opening in August 2020

Dear D103 Community,

I hope this letter finds you well. With the close of school and the State of Illinois moving into Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois Plan, I want to inform you of District 103’s planning for the fall. As you may know, schools are not permitted to open until Phase 4 with many limitations, including wearing face masks, social distancing, and groups no greater than 50 people being allowed to congregate. As you can imagine, this poses great challenges for schools, as we have hundreds of individuals arriving at our schools every day. Therefore, the District is planning for several scenarios in various combinations for this unique start to the school year, including:

  1. Adapted In-Person Opening (Including smaller class sizes, alternate days/shifts, temperature checks, masks, social distancing, etc.)

  2. Remote Learning 2.0 (Improvements from this Spring)

  3. Hybrid Opening - (Combination of In-Person & Remote)

At this point, we are still waiting for the State to provide guidance to our public schools. Until this guidance arrives, we will not be able to issue plans until later this summer. I will update the community regarding our progress on these plans by mid-July. Additionally, the Board of Education will discuss fall planning at their board meetings, which can be found on the Board of Education Agendas and Minutes website.

Remote Learning was thrust upon all of us this year and everyone adapted to continue learning for our students. This summer, we are revising our instruction plans as well as our health and safety measures, for “Remote Learning 2.0” with the input from our staff and community to ensure we are in the best place possible for the fall. Thank you to everyone who has completed each survey this spring, as the feedback has helped us improve teaching and learning this year, as well as plan for next year. We will send a few additional surveys over the summer for additional input as we continue our plan for 2020-2021.

No one knows where Illinois will stand with COVID-19 infection rates and deaths into and through the summer and what that status may mean for opening schools for in-person teaching and learning next school year. We will continue to work with the State, the Illinois Department of Health, our families and staff to remain flexible and adaptable during this process.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to be Leaders in Learning.

All the best,

Scott Warren, Ed.D
Superintendent of D103 Schools
