Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 28th April 2017
What is the best way to travel?
As part of Year 2's learning on 'What is the best way to travel?' Mrs Baker brought in her VW campervan for the children to explore. The children all loved 'Betsy' although we're not sure that they agreed she'd be the best way to travel. For some people that's by bicycle, and we hope you all enjoy the Tour de Yorkshire tomorrow.
Thank You Ripon Lions
The children are delighted to have received some beautiful hardback books for the school library, kindly donated by Ripon Lions.
We would love even more children to use the library, which is open every Thursday and Friday lunchtime. Mrs Baker does a wonderful job with the hardworking Year 6 librarians. The set up is very professional, with children having the opportunity to take out books on loan via the computer system. This term the librarians are running a reading challenge - take out and read six books over the term for the chance to win a prize.
Reading Raffle
One lucky child who has read five times or more during the week (or 5 if the class achieves 100%!) is selected by raffle from every class to choose a book from our special selection to take home and keep (and read!). These books are provided both by school and The Friends to encourage reading throughout school and as we have restocked over the Easter break there are load of brand new books to choose from. This week, Year 6 are back to winning ways, with 94% of children in their class reading 5 times or more this week (as noted by an adult in their reading journal).

OUR PLANET AND ITS PEOPLE: THINKING GLOBALLY.
This wider theme is broken into individual weekly topics based around global issues and how they link to our everyday lives and explores issues from different countries around the world. This links well with our strong record on promoting diversity and cultural understanding.
Year 1 started kicked off our Weekly Worship on this theme with a lovely assembly about water. They reflected on how fortunate we are to have such easy access to clean water and how many people in other countries are not so lucky.
Our program of Welcome Worship assemblies for the rest of the term is outlined below:
Thursday 4th May - Year 2
Thursday 11th May - Year 3
Thursday 18th May - Year 4
Thursday 25th May - Year 5
Thursday 8th June - Year 6
