What IS Organic Food?

Organic food is grown and processed without the use of any chemicals or synthetic products such as pesticides, fertilizers, or food additives. A food that is non-organic is grown with the use of synthetic fertilizers and chemicals.

How Does Organic and Inorganic Food Affect the Short-Term?

The pesticides used in inorganic processes can harm local wildlife. However, the pesticides are able to stave off diseases and pests, meaning a higher production of crops. However, organic food has more of an impact on one's bank account, as it often costs more to buy.

How Does Organic and Inorganic Food Affect the Long-Term?

Farmers who grow organic foods typically produce less waste and use less energy than inorganic farmers. The risk of water and soil contamination will decrease since no or less chemicals are used in organic farming. The individual eating organic food will be really healthy, and the human brain will function better.

An individual's overall health will not be as good as the individual who eats organic food. The chemicals in these foods will damage the soil and water, and in general are not as sustainable and environmentally-friendly as organic foods. It will cause our society to be more dependent on these chemicals in growing food.

Does Inorganic Food Negatively Affect my Health?

In short, yes! Studies examining the effects that consuming the pesticide residues from inorganic foods have found pesticides linked to birth defects, neurological conditions, diabetes, and cancers. Inorganic foods have also been found to contain traces of heavy metals, which are extremely toxic. Additionally, chances of bacterial contamination (such as salmonella) are higher with inorganic food.

However, organic foods do not always have higher nutritional content than inorganic foods-- nutritional content has more to do with the conditions in which the food is grown (although often, organic foods are more consciously grown).
