Myers-Wilkins Wolf Tracks

April 2018 - Issue 9

I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break. We have only 9 weeks of school left and it will go by very quickly. We have lots of exciting events coming up which includes Kindergarten Celebration June 1st, 5th Grade Celebration June 6th, Field Day June 7th, Teacher Appreciation Week May 7th-11th, Stem Family Night April 18th, Reading and Math Family Night May 15th, and our Annual Bike Rodeo May 24th. We are finalizing the details on many of these events. Please check the attached and future calendars and watch for more information on many of the events in our May Newsletter.

As the days warm up and we get some wet weather please send your child to school in appropriate gear for the weather outside. If you need support with this please contact Stephan Witherspoon at ext. 2501. Also remember to check the lost and found if your child has lost a piece of clothing.

Thank you for all you do for your child(ren) here at Myers-Wilkins. We appreciate your support.

MCA Testing

The Minnesota Comprehensive Tests for students in Grades 3-5 is in full swing. These tests will be one of the measures used to look at our student achievement. As I mentioned in the letter I sent home last month to our 3th-5th grade families, that although these tests are important they are one measure. We want our students to try their best. Testing starts on April 16th and ends on May 4th. A couple of reminders during testing season that parents/guardians can do to help:

  • Make sure that students have a good breakfast either at home or at school
  • Students need to be well rested in order to do their best which may mean going to bed earlier than usual
  • Give your child encouragement. Remind them to try their best, work hard and to not give up.

"Coffee with Principal"

Our next gathering will be held on May 2nd from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in our Early Childhood Parent Room #314. This is a time where you can just drop in have coffee, donuts, discussion, and ask any questions you may have. This is a great way for me to meet you and get to know you. All are welcome!!!

Kindergarten Registration

2018-2019 Kindergarten Roundup was held on March 29th/30th. If you were not able to make it and would like to enroll your child at Myers-Wilkins for school next year, please stop in the office for a registration packet or give us a call for more information.

Family Dinner Night with our PSAC

Myers-Wilkins has a very active and inclusive parent group. We get together the second Tuesday of each month. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 10th. We would like as many parents as possible to be a part of this night. We will have a dinner and informal conversation about happenings in the school, community and important topics to our parents. There is child care and if you need a ride please contact Jen Eddy from our Collaborative office @ ext 2459. Family Dinner Night will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Alan Wilkins Visit

On Thursday March 15th Mr. Alan Wilkins, son of Marjorie Wilkins, for whom our school was named after came to visit. He spoke to the students about his mother's legacy and got to tour our wonderful school as well as visit a couple of classrooms. It was an honor having him here and we look forward to a future visit.

Leaders of the Pack Award for March

We continue to have all school monthly morning meetings and recognition assemblies. We have created our "Leaders of the Pack Award." Each month one student from every class is nominated that is demonstrating our core values of being respectful, responsible and safe. The students parents are called and invited to come to the assembly but their child does not find out until the day of the assembly. We are proud to highlight our March "Leaders of the Pack:"

A'Lajiah Campbell, Keri Blakely, William Booth, Fallow Moyer, Salem Stroud, Sincere Atwater, Olivia Berg, Michael Moore, Henry Schwensohn, Blake Wandersee, Kymon Spence, August Qson, Jade Boyd, Mark Goettel, Patience Thompson, Jesse Fairbanks, Elise Westbrook, Colin Westbrook, Amir Ali, and Kianna St. Germaine

Congratulations to our leaders! We can't wait to see who is nominated for the month of May. Our next assembly will be May 4th.
