Student Activity Fair
Wednesday, Sept. 19th 8:00-8:27
Students, get involved and be part of something bigger than yourself.
Students will be called down by their graduating class and offered time to visit the activity tables. Teachers will be in the hallway to assist with students to help them identify something they can get involved in at Cape Cod Tech.
We hold activity periods twice a month on Wednesdays from 8:00-8:30, to give groups time to meet during the school day in addition to after school meetings. We encourage every student to get involved in an activity; we have something for everyone!
Some of the clubs available:
Skills USA
SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 500,000 high school, college and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs, in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.
SkillsUSA offers competitive activities in which students strive to achieve in a variety of occupational skills and leadership areas. Competition in skill and personal achievement is encouraged at all levels. Leadership contests include public speaking, parliamentary procedure, safety, and job interviewing. Occupational skill contests include the building trades, health occupations, automotive technology, the electrical/electronics industry and personal services. Among many others, there are competitions for outstanding SkillsUSA chapter, community service, entrepreneurship and customer service.
Competitions begin locally and continue through the district, state and national levels.mIn most contests at the national championships, SkillsUSA presents medallions to the top three winners. In other contests, more than three medals may be presented if a standard is met. State and local contests may include the official national contests, but may also include contests not offered at the national level.
All students at Cape Cod Tech are SkillsUSA members and are encouraged to compete, especially in their trade areas. All CCT SkillsUSA students contribute to their communities and our school through community service activities. It is an exciting and worthwhile experience.
FFA
FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education.
The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change. But FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.
Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.
GSA-Gay/Straight Alliance & Be the Change
The Gay/Straight Alliance is a group which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, and talk about issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. Be the Change is a venue for students passionate about human rights and social justice. The Gay/Straight Alliance and Be the Change will work collaboratively to plan student-driven events, fundraise, and bring awareness to the CCT community through activities and events related to our cause.
Girls in the Trades at Cape Cod Tech
Did you know that in Massachusetts, women make up only 5% of the jobs in the construction industry?
In the United States as a whole, only 1% of women are in the construction workforce!
And yet, we are facing a severe shortage of skilled labor in all trade areas!
The CCT Girls in the Trades student activity group focuses on supporting students enrolled in the construction cluster shops. These include Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry and Horticulture.
Students will be meeting on a regular basis during lunch periods. Activities include field trips, guest speakers and working together to make presentations to audiences inside and outside of the school. Through participation in this activity group, it is hoped that students will feel valued and supported in the industry that they choose to learn about and work in.
Technical Studies Director Ms. Dolan-Niles advises this group with the cooperation and support of technical teachers in the construction cluster and CCT’s Non-Trad coordinator, Ms. Gammon.
