Board Highlights (just the facts)
At the January 27 regular board meeting:
Budget Report – Business Services Director Jasen McEathron was on hand to update the board on our current budget status. He indicated expenditures are on track for the first quarter of the year, although revenues are lagging due to the fact that the first four months of the year, we were collecting $1.50/$1,000 of assessed valuation in our local levy. For 2020, we will be receiving $2.15/$1,000, as reported in the December edition of CSD Newsroom, so revenues should increase.
Currently, enrollment is up compared to what was forecast, with significant growth seen at Woodburn Elementary. However, we may be seeing changes in the future. We recently received updated enrollment figures from our demographer, and it appears our enrollment growth is expected to slow in the coming years. Over the last 15 years, our average annual growth rate was 2.52%. The most recent predictive models anticipate an average growth rate of 1.3% over the next four years.

Answers to Burning Questions
In our last edition of CSD Newsroom, we asked you, our staff and families, "What is on your mind?" We received great feedback! We’ll address a few concerns or questions in this and in future editions of this newsletter.
Thoughts on a second Comprehensive High School:
Camas needs two separate High Schools. Kids are getting squeezed out of opportunities and getting lost in such a big school.
Need for an additional high school. Concerned that the desire for a strong football team is keeping us from adding a complete second high school even though camas high is overcrowded.
Why can't we make UL a second comprehensive high school? CHS is too large. I'd rather have two small high schools rather than one enormous one.
Misuse of funds. Why such a push towards PBL schools that only help a small percentage of students but eat up a large part of the budget.
We have historically started after Labor Day unless Labor Day is late. The next two years, Labor Day is on the 6th and 7th. Starting that late in September pushes our last day of school back in June. This is problematic for several reasons including inclement weather days, assessment schedules, and post-graduation options for students.
What is the plan to address the size of the elementary schools? The elementary schools are getting way too big.
Our long-range plan included adding Woodburn Elementary and Lacamas Lake Elementary Schools to increase elementary school capacity. Through the work of long-range planning committees, the goal has been to provide similar elementary experiences for all of the areas of Camas with schools in the 500 - 650 capacity range.
