Hawk Happenings!
Holy Rosary Bilingual Academy
Welcome Back!
Hi, Folks! How is everyone doing with the first "week" back? From here on out, we will get on a pattern with sending you important info for the upcoming weeks. You will normally receive the weekly Hawk Happenings on Wednesdays. This week is a little different. The teachers will also send out a weekly newsletter to the parents in their classroom on Mondays or Tuesdays (beginning next week) So, expect Teacher newsletters Monday or Tuesday and an All School newsletter on Wednesday. Then, we give you a break on Thursday and Friday. :) In the All School newsletter, you will see upcoming events, school-wide info, and a weekly message from the principal. We know that people are busy and we don't want you to feel inundated, but the nice thing about Smore (the newsletter platform) is that it is easy to view on computer or phone and you can just return to it to review if you have a question. Just make sure that you check your SPAM folder if you are new to receiving these. If you are not getting newsletters from the main office or the teachers, please email us and let us know so that we can troubleshoot the problem with you and get it fixed.
We hope things have gone well for your children (and your entire family). The kids all seem to be doing great and settling in to the school year routine. All of the staff is super excited to see the smiling faces fill the school once again. Enjoy some beautiful pics from Day 1, courtesy of our outstanding photographer...Lisa Blackmore.
Blessings,
Katie Dempsey

First Day of School 2019-20!
Pick-Up and Drop-Off...
So...we know that the line in the afternoon has been a bit lengthy. An understatement, I know. We are really trying to be more mindful of educational minutes lost by cutting the day short to come out early for dismissal. So, the idea is to have the kids come out for dismissal between 2:55 and 3 pm. Last year, especially with the Pre-K pick-up, it kept getting earlier and earlier. We realize, though, that we do need to open the gate earlier, though, so that the people who want to park can get through and not add to the "drive-through line". Also, we are trying to do 2 "drive- through lines" to expedite things. It is a little bit of a work in progress, so we ask for your patience. Please know that we are planning on not having the K-8 students out until just about 3 pm and you have until 3:15 for pick-up, so if you are coming really early, you may want to push your time back a bit. P-K will be out just before the older students. Please know that you are ALWAYS welcome to go on the left of the line so that you can pull through to park and then walk through the crosswalk to pick up your child (instead of waiting in the line). Also, if you ever want to hang out for a bit after school and have your children play on the big toys, you are more than welcome to do so (as long as you are in the fenced area to watch them). The system usually gets better after the first few days so we thank you again for your patience while everyone gets comfortable with the new system.
Weekly Envelopes??
We are really trying to do our best to go green(er). With that in mind, we are doing away with the weekly envelopes that were sent out, signed, and returned the next day (last year). If we send any paperwork home with your child, we will let you know so that you can be on the lookout in their backpack. Today, we have the following items coming home:
- Free/Reduced Meal Application (Please complete and return IF you would like to be evaluated for Free or Reduced Meals this year. DUE: Friday, Sept. 13th!!)
- September Breakfast/Lunch Menu
- Spirit Gear Form (Please staple your check/cash to the form if you are ordering...and return by Friday, Sept. 13th)
- Pre-K Parent Handbook (only to Pre-K parents, done as part of our Pre-K DCYF Licensing)
Reminder: Tuition is due the 10th of every month!
Reminder: The first tuition payment of the year was due in August. We have quite a few people who did not make that first payment and the second payment is already due THIS Tuesday. Remember, there is a $50 late fee for all late payments. If you get enrolled in FACTS and have the payment deducted on the 10th or 25th of the month, you don't have to worry about this. It's all taken care of and one last thing to remember! Questions...contact Kelly at Finance@holyrosarybilingual.org. Welcome, Coach Omar
As we begin the new school year, we would like to welcome our new PE teacher, Coach Omar. He comes to us with a lot of experience in coaching and working with children of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. Coach Omar is currently coaching football and basketball to high school students at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. He was semi-pro in basketball himself, but loves all sports. He is excited to have the opportunity to work with children of all ages, helping them to grow in skill and confidence as they build teamwork and leadership skills. Thank you to Mr. Daniel Ramirez, last year's PE teacher, who has decided to return to his full-time job as a Taekwondo instructor.
Mass on Fridays?
We are still planning on having Friday All School masses each Friday, beginning next Friday (the 13th). We are in the process of trying to secure a priest. If all goes as planned, mass will be at 9 am in the auditorium. More details to follow.
