MTRS Student and Family Update
9/18/2020
Dear MTRS Community,
We made it through the first three days of what will most certainly be an epic school year! Our students and staff have shown great resilience in navigating through tech needs, muting and unmuting, following links, trying new apps, and settling into remote learning.
Next Week
Next week, we have a full week of school and will begin our full day schedule. Please click here for the link to the bell schedule. PLEASE NOTE: there is a shift in our schedule for the next two Wednesdays (September 23 and 30) as we prepare for our Wellness Wednesday activities. The next two Wednesdays are late start days, with students scheduled to begin their day at 10 a.m. On Sept. 23 and Sept. 30, students will have asynchronous learning time, advisory, club or teacher office hours, and grade-level meetings. Information regarding clubs and organizations (Student Council and National Honor Society) will be emailed by the advisors for those activities. Advisory will be held for approximately 45-minutes. On Sept. 23, students will complete a form during their advisory period where they will identify their preferred activities. Wellness Wednesday activities will start on Oct. 7.
To help break-down the schedule for the next two Wednesdays, here’s a helpful at-a-glance:
WiFi Hub at MTRS
I am happy to share that our school-based (MTRS) WiFi hub will be up and running on Thursday, Sept. 24. Determining the WiFi needs of our families has been a high priority for us. While this has taken a lot of time and energy, we appreciate your patience. The MTRS WiFi hub is for students whose WiFi needs cannot be met by additional technology such as a hotspot. If you have not received a call from us regarding a spot in the hub, please contact the main office. Transportation will be provided; however, this may take a week or two to finalize. While this is arranged, families can drop off students at 8:30 a.m. and pick up at 3 p.m.
Athletics
Fall sports practices begin on Monday, Sept. 21. Please contact Athletic Director Greg Vouros (gvouros@mtrsd or 413-625-9811 x1310) with any questions you may have.
Food Distribution
GREAT news about school lunches as we kick-off the school year! Lunches will be FREE for all children ages 18-years and younger through Dec. 31, 2020 thanks to an extension of the USDA’s food service programs!
IF you would like your child(ren) to participate in school lunches, you’ll need to register (pre-order). Preorder for all weeks OR be sure to preorder by the Friday before service is needed.
Lunches will be provided at all district schools. If it’s easier for an MTRS family to pick up at your local elementary school, rather than coming to MTRS, please indicate it on the registration form. You can find all the info you need and registration form here: www.mtrsd.org/food-services. School lunch menus can also be found on that page.
Have a great weekend,
Marisa
