Starvation
Starvation increased a lot during the this time. Nobody had jobs and couldn't afford rent or food. Many people who couldn't afford things lived in "Hoovervilles."
Hoovervilles
The homeless would build shacks out of paper and cardboard. The towns of shacks were named Hoovervilles. Living in Hoovervilles was hard and stressful for most people.
Dust Bowl
This was caused by a drought and dry farming. The dust was thick and would kill people when they breathed it in.
Unemployment
Many people became unemployed during the Great Depression. Most men couldn't support their families. The women started getting jobs and some were supposedly taking the jobs away from men.
