Best Selling Author Visit
New York Times bestselling author and two-time National Book Award Finalist Eliot Schrefer will visit with DW seventh- and eighth-graders on Wednesday, March 18. Copies of Mr. Schrefer's books are available for purchase on the RevTrak Web Store. Mr. Schrefer will autograph all purchased copies during his DW visit. All orders must be submitted before Feb. 26.
Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
IGSMA Competition
Ninety-seven Half Day and Daniel Wright band, orchestra, and chorus students participated in the Illinois Grade School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, Feb. 8. Students worked for weeks to prepare repertoire to perform for adjudicator feedback. All 97 students earned either Superior or Excellent ratings for their performance. The DW music faculty thanks the D103 Music Boosters and the many volunteers for their leadership and support.
Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling
Our winter parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., and on Friday, Feb 28 from 9 am. to 12 p.m.
Conference scheduling in our PTC Wizard system will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb 18 and close at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 25. Parent/guardian contacts should have received an email communication on Thursday, Feb. 13 about scheduling. For directions on using the PTC Wizard, please read the e-notice that will go out to parents on Monday.

Report cards are available on Unified Classroom on Wednesday, Feb. 26
Thursday, Feb. 27 is an Early Dismissal Day (Sprague 11:15 a.m., Half Day 12:00 p.m., Daniel Wright 11:30 a.m.) for parent-teacher conferences
Friday, Feb. 28 there is no school for students due to Parent-Teacher Conferences
Monday, March 2 is a non-attendance day for students
Stage Crew Positions Available for Musical
Shark Tank a Big Success
Shark Tank teams concluded their final presentation this week to local judges who selected team, Gomb, as the first place winner for creating a hairbrush that can gel hair while brushing hair.
Nine teams competed for first place. Winning with Gomb were eighth-graders Richard Xu, Alex Xie, Aaron Gan, Colin Zhang, and Chelsea She. The D103 Learning Fund Foundation program presented the team with a $75 check for their efforts. Second place went to sixth-grader Krish Shah for his invention of creating a glove to charge cell phones. He received a $50 check. Eighth graders Nathan Chen, Bill Guo and Dariana Yu placed third for their invention they called, Quick Pocket, a portable multi-layer pocket that fit phones, pens, etc. and they were rewarded with a $25 check. Eighth-Grade Health Night
Please join fellow eighth-grade students and their parents at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, Daniel Wright, for an informative health event that will cover relevant topics such as:
- Friendships and Romances: Building the Foundation for Healthy Adolescent Relationships
- Managing Stress: How to Develop Your Emotional Toolbox for the Transition to High School
- What Parents Need to Know to Help Middle Schoolers be Healthy, Happy Students in their High School Community.
