MPES Connection
2019 - 2020 Back to School Edition 2
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
Monday is the First Day of School!
2019-2020 Bus Routes
Important Transportation Message
Safety is always our top consideration and priority in MPCS. It has been an ongoing struggle to find crossing guards to assist our students when crossing the streets to and from the elementary campus. A decision was made to reinstate the bus routes for the 2019-2020 school year for all students.
Crossing guards will no longer be on duty at Brandon Street and South Whit Street or at Stephanie Street and Cougar Court. We encourage families use the bus transportation to and from school. If however, families decide to continue to allow their child to walk to and from school, MPES and CES will be asking that parents complete a permission to walk form.
Please check the website (www.mpark.net) for your bus stop, time, and bus number. Should you have any questions feel free to contact me. As always, we appreciate your support.
Thank you,
Patricia Hurley-Ritenour
Director of Transportation
Car Rider Tags
MPES will be continuing the Car Rider Dismissal procedures from last year. If your child will be a car rider in the afternoons, you will need to register him/her for a Car Tag. Parents will need to complete the 19-20 registration form even if you have a tag from last year. This registration form is for MPES students only. If your student has a sibling attending Cougar Elementary, you will need to register both students with Cougar Elementary. Once you have completed the registration form, you will receive a Car Tag with an assigned number. Please note the Car Tag must be placed on the dash of your car or hung from your rearview mirror. Car tag registration forms are available in the main office.
Important - Student Registration Verification
Please make sure that you have verified your information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The completion of this process is required for all returning students.
Parents of returning students must access the PowerSchool Enrollment online forms through the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.mpark.net/public. The online forms contain demographic and emergency information you entered last year. During this process, you will verify the information is accurate or update any information that has changed. Parents will also electronically sign annual agreement forms for school district policies.
At least one parent is required to create a PowerSchool Parent Portal account. If you have multiple children in Manassas Park City Schools, you must verify information for each student, however only one parent account is necessary.
- If you have created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account in a previous school year, please use that account to log in. Please do not create a new account.
- If you have not created a PowerSchool parent account, directions can be found at http://www.mpark.net/parents/directions-for-parent-portal.

Device Deployments for Grades 3 - 5
This year, our MPES device deployment will take place with students during the regular school day (parents/guardians will not need to be present). Your child will receive their device once the Student Data Verification (which includes the Acceptable Computer Use Agreement) is complete. There will not be a $25 Technology Fee this year.
MySchoolBucks
Manassas Park City Schools will continue to offer MySchoolBucks. This convenient online payment service provides a quick and easy way to pay for school-related purchases. You can pay for items such as meal payments, field trips, and more using your credit/debit card or electronic check. Register for your FREE account today at https://www.MySchoolBucks.com.
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
The application is open and available for all families to see if they qualify. The paperwork needs to be completed in the first 30 days of school. After this time, if the paperwork is not completed, all meals charged to start the school year will be billed as full price. I encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Have you Heard About our Family Market?
The goal of the Family Market program is to help alleviate hunger through a monthly distribution of healthy and nutritious food to children and their families. Manassas Park City Schools has partnered with the Capital Area Food Bank to provide non-perishable items and fresh produce to families within our school division. Each family will be allowed to “shop” for what they need and want from an array of products.
