Important Information for You!

With Baffling Bill, Halloween Parties, and the lead up to Intersession this week, it is important that we remain diligent but compassionate about the behaviors that our students may demonstrate this week. While I know we all look forward to this week, for some of our students it means uncertainty of who they will be with, where will they get food from, and what will they do. Thank you for the extra care and support you give your students this week. Additionally, I hope you enjoy your Intersession!

Parent-Teacher Conference Follow-up

I want to thank you all for the time you took to prepare for parent-teacher conferences. While I know that conferences before the end of the marking period were new, there was still much to go over. I know the conferences I sat in on, I felt that the parents really left with a clear picture of where their child was starting the school year academically, socially, and behaviorally.

Additionally, the parents that I interacted with were all so positive about their child's beginning weeks at Thomson. One parent said, "I feel so fortunate that (my child) is here at Thomson! Everyone, I mean everyone, is so wonderful." I thanked her for her kind words and was so humbled and proud of the building we are ALL work so hard to create everyday for our kids...thank you!

Halloween Parade & Parties

We are getting close to our students most favorite school day of the year - Halloween! Please be sure to be diligent with our food allergy policies when planning your class party. In addition, please include costume expectations, parade details and party plans in your parent newsletters. Costumes are required to be kid friendly. This includes students, staff, and any guests (be sure to share this in your classroom newsletters) that come to join the fun...kid friendly means no scary or gory costumes. No weapons (guns, swords, bow & arrows, knives) are allowed. For safety reasons we don’t wear full masks at school. This sounds like a lot of no’s, but I trust that your conversation with your students will be age appropriate and positive. If you have any students that do not have a costume or that do not come with one, please let the office know right away as we have lots of extras to loan or give students. Also, students will be allowed to wear their costumes to school on Thursday.

Our Thomson costume parade will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The plan is to exit the doors by the library and walk the inside perimeter of the playground and re-enter the doors by rooms 22 & 23. Parents and family members are to be outside the fence. I know that it may be chilly, but unless it is raining our parade will take place outside. Please keep your fingers crossed for no rain on Thursday!

We will take our Staff Halloween Photo in the gym at 8:00 a.m....hope you can join us!

Table of Honor

Thank you again this year to our Climate/Behavior Committee for coordinating and planning our Table of Honor. Our first Table of Honor celebration will be Wednesday. New this year, students will receive a letter from me that is really addressed to their parents/guardians. This was an idea that was shared with me by Megan Romanik and I just loved it. The Climate Committee was going to have you print these yourself, but I would like the office to handle this. This will allow the letters to be personally addressed and on school letterhead. Anna will use the Table of Honor spreadsheet to address the letters, so please be sure to keep that updated. The office will print the letters and deliver them on Monday.

Professional Development/Records Day

Friday, October 25th is Professional Development Day! Groups will be meeting from 8:00-11:00 a.m. with most groups meeting at Hill Elementary. Please watch your email for agendas from the various administrators planning for the groups. Following the PD, staff has a half-day Records Day and may complete records at school or from home.

Family Math Game Night

As Megan shared, our Family Math Game Night will be held on Thursday, November 7th from 5-7 p.m. While this is such a fun evening for our staff and families, this is also one of the 'five evening meetings' that all certified staff must attend. Additionally, if anyone is available to help with set up, Megan and I would greatly appreciate it!
