Story Book Pumpkin Patch Contest
The literary pumpkins will be on display in the library from October 20th-October 31st. All pumpkins must be picked up by Tuesday, October 31st or they will be thrown away the following day. The pumpkins can be any size, though a student must be able to easily carry it and any decorations that have been used. Basically, no really big pumpkins with large extravagant decorations. Home-made decorations are preferred over store-bought ones to help students be creative. If you are interested in having your child participate, a form will be sent home in Tuesday folders on October 10th.
Thank You for Helping Our Fall Book Fair!

Thank you to our volunteers that stepped up and helped run our book fair! Thank you to the students and parents that made purchases at book fair. We could not do this without all of you!
Donations to help schools hurt by Hurricane Harvey
If you would like to donate for this cause, we are still accepting donations of gently-used library quality books. If you would like to donate cash, please see your librarian for a list of places accepting cash donations. Monthly STEAM Book Challenges for Families
Starting this school year, Paloma Creek Elementary Library will post a STEAM Book Challenge for our families to work on at home and show off in the library. Students are encouraged (along with their families) to complete each challenge, which is based on a different book each month. These challenges are optional, not required.
September’s book was Violet the Pilot by Steve Breen and students were asked to design and create an airplane. October's book is Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and students will be asked to design a "leaf sculpture" that is at least six inches tall. To learn more about our October STEAM Book Challenge, please checkout our library blog, CREATE@PalomaCreek at http://createpalomacreek.weebly.com
STEAM challenges incorporate science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. They are designed to exercise student's creativity, while providing an opportunity for families to enjoy some quality time together.
Digital Citizenship Lessons in the Library
To help our students be safe online, 2nd-5th grades will receive at least three lessons about digital citizenship and information literacy this school year. We will use the Common Sense Media curriculum that can be found at www.commonsensemedia.org for our lessons. Our first lesson will be in October during our library rotation on PLC Wednesdays.
To learn more about online safety, please checkout the Common Sense Media Family Tip Sheets on Talking Safely Online, which can be downloaded using the link below.
