CDHS Welcomes Author Jenny Hubbard!
Friday, April 4th
Jenny Hubbard
A former English teacher, Jenny now practices what she preached: the discipline of rewriting, which she says is the key to a writer’s success. Advice she gives to young authors is, "Rewrite, rewrite, and rewrite, and then tell the story all over again from a different point of view."
Paper Covers Rock
Paper Covers Rock tells the story of Alex Stromm, a boarding school student who is upset that he failed to save his drowning friend. When questioned about the incident, Alex and his friend Glenn begin telling their one of many lies.
"We could have stopped him," I say.
"He would have done it anyway," says Glenn.
And We Stay
In And We Stay, Emily Beam is shipped off to a boarding school in Amherst, Massachusetts after her boyfriend threatens her with a stolen gun before taking his own life. Guilt-ridden and angry, she begins to write poetry and encounters the ghostly presence of Emily Dickinson.
"So. You're a poet."
Emily shakes her head. "No," she says, "I'm just a girl who writes poems."
