Mrs. Moore's 4th Grade Music

Lesson for Mrs. Romanelly's Class

Lesson Objective

Time: 1 minute

Students will be able to read and write half, quarter, and eighth notes and rests.

Time

This lesson should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Introduction

Time: 2 minutes

Today we will be reviewing half notes and rests, quarter notes and rests, and eighth notes and rests. We discussed these earlier this year, but we need to make sure you understand it for the start of the next school year so we can continue on.

Instruction - Please watch the video below.

Time: 3 minutes
rhythmic notation

Activity

Time: 15 minutes

In your 4th Grade Music envelope you should have:

  • 3 half notes,
  • 3 half rests,
  • 6 quarter notes,
  • 6 quarter rests,
  • 6 eighth notes, and
  • 6 eighth rests

Pull these out along with your yellow Rhythmic Notation Paper. There are 2 boxes on this paper. Fill in the boxes using a combination of half, quarter, and eighth notes and rests. Do not let the notes and rests hang over the box. They need to fit in there just right. Not too big, not too small. I gave you plenty of notes and rests that you should have extra when you are done. You can mix and match them any way you like as long as they fit in the box. Try it 2 or 3 different times, so you can see the different combnations you can make.

Assessment

Time: 9 minutes

When you turn in your paper in to Mrs. Romanelly, you are done with the Music portion of your lessons.
