UCCS EdTech Tips
Your Weekly Dose of Technology in the Classroom
New year, new schedule ...
Hopefully by now you have realized that I am trying out a new schedule for the year. I am planning my days at each building and trying to get into a routine. I believe this will work better for everyone so you have days that you can count on me to be there for you if you need any help. Of course, I will still run over if there is an urgent help ticket and if you have specific plans for a class that you want me to be a part of - don't feel like you need to schedule on those specific days. Let me know in advance and I will put it on the calendar and switch some things around. Feel free to let me know what's working and what's not! I'm here to help you and that's where I get the most satisfaction out of this job. I had a great time working on Google Drive and Google Docs with the 4th graders in Mrs. Swain's class last week! They are going to be ready for 5th grade and Google Classroom next year!
My Schedule:
M: High School
T: Middle School
W: Elementary School
Th: Middle School
F: High School (am)/Elementary School (pm)
Formative
Formative is a formative assessment tool that allows you to create free accounts for your students easily through Clever.com. With formative, you can create quick assessments or assignments that can be accessed on any device connected to the Internet. Students can respond in short answer, multiple choice, true/false, or even in a drawing mode with the iPad. You can create a brand new assignment, browse Formatives collection of Common Core aligned assignments, or upload a pdf or Google Doc of your own that you already have created. Watch the short video to learn more. I would love to do a full hour PD on this tool for those that might find this useful. These assignments could easily be uploaded with the link into our Google Classrooms and the grades could be exported to be used in Powerschool.
55 Tips for Using Google
Google Education gives some fun tips for using Google Tools that you may or may not already know. Share the link with your students to give them a better understanding of how to use their Google Apps.
Crash Course
This is a YouTube channel that gives 10 - 15 minute videos on topics in different subjects like World History, U.S. History, Government and Politics, Economics, Astronomy, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, and more. The videos are entertaining and meant to be shown in an educational setting. Upload these to your Google Classroom for extra resources for your students.
