Sophocles
The creator of the play "Oedipus The King"
Thebes, Greece
The city created or "grew" from buried dragons growing into a race of fully armed giants that fought until there were only 5 left. These 5 become the fathers of Thebes.
Cadmus
The founder of Thebes. The one who killed the dragon and planted its teeth creating the fathers of Thebes. Great grandfather of Laius.
Laius
Great Grandson of Cadmus. The husband of Jocasta. The parents of Oedipus. Directed his servant to take his child and abandoned him mountainside because the Oracle of Apollo told Laius that his son, Oedipus was going to kill him and marry his wife.
Oracle of Apollo (Temple of Truths)
A place where the best prophets or fortune tellers give predictions to others which is gods will. SO WHAT THEY PREDICT MUST HAPPEN!
Jocasta
The wife of Laius. The mother of Oedipus. Marries Her son Oedipus after Oedipus murders Laius, his father, but doesn't know Oedipus is her son.
Corinth
The city of King Polybus and Queen Merope
King Polybus
The King of Corinth. Receives Oedipus from a unknown man eager to raise him. Gave Oedipus his name because of his twisted unusual foot.
Queen Merope
The Queen of Corinth. Receives Oedipus with her husband from an unknown man. Also eager to raise Oedipus.
Creon
Was sent by Oedipus to the Oracle of Apollo to find out how to lift the blight (Plague) from Thebes. Creon returns with the message that there is bad in the city and it must go. The bad was that Oedipus had murdered his father which Oedipus didn't know he had done such thing.
Sphinx
A winged monster with a head of a woman and a body of a lion who kills all who fail to answer her riddle. Killed her self because Oedipus answered her riddle correctly.
Antigone
One of the four siblings of Oedipus and Jocasta's children.
Ismene
One of the four siblings of Oedipus and Jocasta's children.
Eteocles
One of the four siblings of Oedipus and Jocasta's children.
Polynices
One of the four siblings of Oedipus and Jocasta's children.
Oedipus
Biological son of Jocasta and Laius. Received a message from the Oracle of Apollo that he was destine to kill his father and marry his mother. Oedipus Ran away from step parents trying to protect them because he still thinks their his real parents. Running away he runs into his real father not knowing who he is and murders him. Reaching Thebes he correctly answers the Sphinx riddle and becomes the new king of Thebes also marrying his mother and having four children with Jocasta. Later the city of Thebes had a blight (plague) and Oedipus sends his brother-in-law Creon to the Oracle of Apollo curious of why the blight hasn't gone away. The reason for the blight was Oedipus had brought bad into the city by murdering his biological father, Laius.
