NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
Term 3 Week 1 : 23 July 2020
Dear Parents and Staff
Before school on Monday morning I met with all staff to remind them that, whilst we are in a very privileged position in Western Australia with regard to the management of COVID-19, it is important that we remain vigilant about hygiene practices and physical distancing (as much as this is possible in a Primary school setting) as things can change very quickly if we become complacent. This has certainly been evident in Victoria and New South Wales and Iām sure that none of us is keen to return to the lockdown measures that we experienced just a few months ago. Please be assured that we are maintaining our enhanced cleaning procedures and constantly reminding children of appropriate hygiene practices. Letās hope the rest of our community in Western Australia does the same so that we may all remain safe.
DROP OFF/PICK UP
Thank you to parents for your patience as we return to our regular finish time of 3.00pm for PP to Year Six. We are very appreciative that many parents have continued to use the drive through pick up in the afternoons and, whilst we have had a few teething problems, we are becoming more efficient at getting children into their cars both safely and quickly. Please remind your children of the need to move straight from their class to the covered area immediately after school so that we donāt have any hold ups. Teachers have been told to ensure that children are dismissed on time to assist also. I do understand that sitting in a queue for a few minutes can be frustrating but maybe itās a good time for you to relax and listen to some favourite music or podcast before the silence is shattered when you get to the front of the queue.
Again, I remind you of the need to be careful at drop off times. There are still some parents who continue the very selfish practice of stopping in the street to drop off their children. Earlier this week we were informed by a parent of a near miss when a child exited a car in front of them. Only yesterday there was the tragedy of an 8-year-old child in a school near Mandurah who died after being hit by a truck. Please think; are the moments you save worth the possible lifetime of regret that you will carry if something was to happen to yours or another child?
WEāRE BACK!
The commencement of this new Term sees the return of a few of our regular activities that we have sadly missed over the past few months.
- Tomorrow we will be entertained by our Year Six students as they present the first of our performance Assemblies for the year. I have it on good advice that a few of the special guests who presented Merit Awards during last Term may be making an appearance. Two members from the family of each of the children are invited to attend assemblies and their buddy class will also watch the live performance. The Assembly will be live-streamed to all other classes and there will be an added bonus (if we get the technology right) of the Assembly being recorded and sent to families of the children performing. For privacy purposes, I ask that you only share these recordings with your immediate family members.
- Edu Dance also begins tomorrow, and we look forward to being able to perform for an audience towards the end of the Term.
- Faction sport returned today with our cross-country carnival and Mr Webb has arranged some interschool events throughout the Term.
- Mrs Flexman's amazing Art program has commenced this week with all children receiving a five week series of lessons to explore, plan and produce a wonderful piece of art.

YEAR 2 CLASS NEWS
Welcome back everyone!
Year Two are excited to be back at school after a relaxing break. We are looking forward to trying our best, challenging ourselves and having fun this term!
All of us returned to school with so many stories about what we got to do in the holidays throughout Western Australia. We enjoyed sharing these adventures with our friends! We decided it would be great to write recounts about our adventures.
Comments from the children:
Eric:
On the holidays my sister and I made pizza. We made two pizzas each and I put cheese, sauce and bacon on mine. They were yummy!
Layla:
On the holidays my family went to Lancelin. Once we were there we went to the beach and we let our dog Luna off the leash and she was going crazy!
Gabriel:
On the holidays I went to my friendās house and went to Laser Corps. We played some games there and had lots of fun!
Alyssa:
On the holidays I celebrated my baby brotherās birthday with a party. He turned one this year. I played with my friends at the party and we had an entertainer come!
Kali:
My favourite thing on the school holidays was when we went to Bounce, for my birthday, with some of my friends. We had lots of fun. We bounced together on the different trampolines.
Jonty:
My favourite part of my school holidays was when I went rock climbing with all my friends in Karijini. I also got to do some adult rock climbing. I thought it was hard, but I didnāt give up.
Mackenzie:
I went to Busselton in the holidays. I couldnāt do many things there because my Grandad broke his arm. I helped look after him. I went to the chocolate factory to bring him back chocolate. His favourite chocolate is dark chocolate. The next day we went to the shipwreck and it was an actual ship that got crashed on the sand.
Religion:
God created the world. We thank God for the gift of creation. Jesus came to show us how we should appreciate the beauty of Godās creation. Jesus, through his example, teaches us to treat everything in creation with respect and care. As Louis Armstrong sang so eloquently āWhat a Wonderful Worldā
Ava:
God created the beautiful, entire universe. God created dogs, the sun and created all animals.
Thank you, God.
Miron:
God created humans and nature and food.
Thank you, God.
Nina:
God created trees, the sky, snow and the sun.
Thank you, God.
Hannah:
God created trees, people and animals. My favourite creations are roses.
Thank you, God.
Mathematics and Art:
We have been exploring 2D shapes in Mathematics. We have been learning the names of different 2D shapes and identifying their attributes, such as counting the amount of sides and vertices each 2D shape has. We also got to make a collage using a variety of 2D shapes.
Gianna:
I enjoyed making the 2D shapes out of the different coloured paper and making patterns with the paper. I put two trapeziums together and they made a hexagon.
Jesiah:
I have learnt when you put two 2D shapes together, they can make another shape. I put a diamond and a triangle together and it made a trapezium. A four sided shape is called a quadrilateral.
Sophia B:
I learnt that 2D shapes are not 3D shapes because 2D shapes are flat.
Edu-Dance:
This term we are very lucky to participate in the Edu-Dance programme. Yr 2P will have classes on Monday and Yr 2M on Friday. We will get to wear our coloured sports uniform on our Edu-Dance day.
Caitlyn: I am looking forward to learning how to dance. I hope we get to dance to Blinding Lights by The Weeknd.
Samara: Iām looking forward to learning good dance moves.
