Notes from the principal

My name is Tami Eldridge and I am privileged to be the principal at this amazing school! I am entering my eighth year as principal here. I am very excited about the beginning of school as it marks the start of things new. As we embark upon a new year with all students back face to face, we need your assistance in getting your child(ren) to school daily to ensure that they can get the best education possible. If they are not here, they cannot be learning!


As we look forward to the school year, we want to ensure all parents that we will do our best to meet the needs of all students. Building a partnership with you and your child is the best way that we can ensure success in the learning process. I want to encourage you to work with your child's teacher to build a relationship, work at home with your child, and commit to making the 21-22 a year to remember because of the success of learning!


I am sure there are some concerns about safety out there. Please know that we will continue to be diligent in cleaning procedures and encouraging students to wash their hands frequently We do ask that if your child is sick with a fever or Covid like symptoms, that you keep them at home.


I know, that if we work together, we will make it the best year ever!

Infosnap codes have been sent out twice. If you have not taken time to update, please do so. Students will not receive homeroom teacher placement until this information is updated. If you need assistance, please contact Virginia Vera at school.

TEACHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Teacher announcements will be sent on Friday, July 30 after 5:00 p.m. You will receive an email with a video announcing your child's teacher. Please share the video with your child.


If you do not receive a video, you are welcome to contact the school starting Monday, August 2 after 12:00 p.m. that day. Remember, in order to receive the video, you must have updated your child's records via InfoSnap.

MEET THE TEACHER

We will be having FACE TO FACE meet the teacher this year. In an effort to minimize the size of crowd, we are asking that a MAXIMUM OF 2 PEOPLE accompany the child enrolled at ORE. We have also divided Meet the Teacher into two days (PK/K and 1st - 4th). On Thursday, August 5th, the 1st - 4th graders we have two groups divided by last name of the child. If you have children will different last names, come closer to the mid-point so that you can do all of them in one trip. There will be an opportunity for a self-guided tour of the building at each event so feel free to take time to view the school. Please see the schedule below:

SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

All communication from the school is sent electronically. The Hoot Owl will be sent out a minimum of once a month at the beginning of each month. This newsletter will be sent in English and Spanish. Please make sure we have a current email address in our system to ensure you get current notifications.

Legislative Update


During the recent legislative session, Senate Bill 1697 established new Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.02124, Parental Option for Student Retention, which allows parents or guardians to opt to have their child:



  • repeat prekindergarten;

  • enroll in prekindergarten if the child was eligible to enroll in prekindergarten in the previous school year, under TEC, §29.153(b), and has not yet enrolled in kindergarten;

  • repeat kindergarten;

  • enroll in kindergarten if the child would have enrolled in kindergarten in the previous school year and has not yet enrolled in first grade;



  • for grades one through three, repeat the grade the student was enrolled in the previous school year;

  • for grades four through eight, repeat the grade the student was enrolled in during the 2020-2021 school year; and

  • for courses taken for high school credit, repeat any course in which the student was enrolled during the 2020-2021 school year.

SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST FOR 2021 - 2022

REGISTRATION

Registration is currently underway. There is a district wide registration day on Saturday, July 31 at Oak Ridge High School 9th. It is from 9-12. Families will be asked to sign in at the door with a phone number then wait in their car until they receive a text to enter. Please be sure to bring all needed documents.

YEARBOOKS

If you purchased a yearbook, they are here and need to be picked up. We are back at work full time Monday - Friday, 8-4. We are sold out of the extras.

2021 - 2022 CAR RIDER SIGNS

We would like to get a jump on printing car rider signs for the 21-22 school year. If your child will be a car rider or could potentially be a car rider, please use the link below and order car rider signs for next school year. We will have these ready for pick up at Meet the Teacher for those who request early.


Please order the number of signs needed if other family members will be picking up your child periodically.

LUNCH INFORMATION

Each year parents who need breakfast/lunch assistance are asked to renew their application. This is very important to be completed before school starts to ensure that your child continues to receive assistance.


As offers come in from different organization to assist students with back to school clothes/supplies, Christmas gifts, food, etc...only those families who are on free/reduced lunch will be eligible to receive these services. Please use the link below to update your application:
