FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
This past Wednesday (3/10) marked the conclusion of the 2nd Trimester! Looking back to the re-opening of school in the Fall, there was much uncertainty about the sustainability of in-person learning. How grateful we are to be continuing with in-person learning as we mark the completion of two thirds of our academic year! This is due in large part to the diligence and hard work of our students and families. Thank you for all that you do to help keep our school community safe!
Please note that report cards for grades K-8 will be sent home on Tuesday, March 16th.
Our celebration of National Reading Month is in full swing! Be sure to check out additional information regarding Reading Week (3/22-3/26) and our annual Read-a-thon (3/22-4/2) below!
As we look ahead to the remainder of the month of March, I also wanted to let you know that I will be attending a virtual New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation visit to another Catholic elementary school in the region from March 22nd-24th. I'm excited for this opportunity to see the great things other Catholic schools in our region are doing, as well as to learn more about the NEASC accreditation process.
A reminder that Father Doyle School is a NEASC accredited institution. Earning this accreditation is a continuous, cyclical process that includes regular reporting to the association, as well as accreditation visits. Due to the virtual visit, I will have limited access to email and phone calls on Monday, March 22nd and Tuesday, March 23rd, as well as the morning of Wednesday, March 24th. Please excuse any delayed responses as a result.
Finally, just a quick reminder that Monday, March 15th is an early dismissal day, with students dismissed at 1:30pm. Thank you!
Reading Week - March 22-26
We can't wait to celebrate Reading Week beginning March 22nd! The week will include:
- School-wide DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Time
- Door Decorating Activities
- Virtual Guest Readers
- Character Dress Up Days
- Literary Bingo
- And much, much more!
More information, including a detailed schedule for Reading Week, will be shared with families next week. Stay tuned!
Annual FJVD Read-a-thon March 22nd - April 2nd
Our annual Read-a-thon Fundraiser will kick-off on Monday, March 22nd. Next week we will send home paperwork with your reader explaining how you will activate his or her personal Read-a-thon page. This is a great opportunity to encourage reading while supporting our school community. Find out more in the flyer below or by clicking here. Thank you for your support!
Reminder: Weekly Story Time Each Wednesday in March!
Get cozy and relax, then join us for Story Time on Zoom every Wednesday in March beginning at 7pm. Each week we will have a special guest from the FJVD family reading a story live for our PK-2nd grade students. Older students are welcome to join as well!
Sign up for any (or all!) Wednesday's you would like to attend, and a separate Zoom invite will be sent out for each night. Sign up at the link here: bit.ly/FJVDStoryTime. You can sign up for as many nights as you'd like!
Middle School Reading Community Page
March is National Reading Month and, while we are always promoting reading and literacy at Father Doyle, during this month we want to take this opportunity to encourage our middle school students in particular to limit their screen time and pick up a good book! With this in mind, please take a moment to review our current guidance on Chromebook usage for in-person learners.
Furthermore, to promote reading among our middle school community, we've created a Middle School Reading Community Google Classroom page where students can share their thoughts on books they're currently reading. More information regarding the community page was sent to middle school families via email.
FJVD Paint Night Coming April 9th!
Join the PTO for a Virtual Paint Night With Miss Mac! - Miss Mac will guide us through painting the Birds on the Wire painting. There will be a non-guided Hot Air Balloon option that can be traced for those who prefer it, or would like to participate but may prefer something easier. (Instructions will be provided in our kit). Current RIDOH Quarantine Guidance (Non-Travel)
On December 10, 2020, the Rhode Island Department of Health released new Quarantine Guidance for confirmed close contacts of a positive case. A detailed summary of this guidance can be found here.
Generally, the guidance allows for:
- 14 Day Quarantine for Immunocompromised and/or Long-Term Care Staff
- 10 Day Quarantine for General Public (while continuing to monitor for symptoms)
- 7 Day Quarantine with Negative Test at least 5 Days After Last Exposure
A reminder that the Department of Health is the only organization that can mandate a person quarantine. The school will continue to address necessary hybrid learning scenarios on a case by case basis in consultation with the Department of Health.
Hybrid Learning & Distance Learning Policies
As shared with families via email we have updated our Hybrid Learning and Distance Learning Policies and Procedures. You can find those changes outlined in the documents attached below, as well as linked here:
Hybrid Learning Letter to Families
Distance Learning Opt-In Dates
In addition, you can view a brief video summary of the updates here. We hope these changes will help make hybrid and distance learning increasingly manageable and effective for staff, students, and families alike!
Probable Cases & Testing Procedures
The Department of Health has released additional resources for families regarding how to proceed if your child has symptoms at home or becomes ill at school. You can find the RIDOH Resources for Families here. Please note, if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that indicate a probable case, please call 844-857-1814 from 7:30am-9:30pm seven days a week to schedule a test through the K-12 Testing Network. You should also notify the school as soon as possible.
If your child is experiencing symptoms and is being tested, two tests will be conducted at the K-12 testing site - a rapid test with results within 24 hours, and a PCR test with results within 48 hours. Please note, students are not permitted to return to school until both tests are negative and symptoms have resolved. In addition, families must complete the After Illness Return Attestation Form which can also be found on the homepage of our school website under "Important Links."
A reminder that our hybrid learning policies for students absent due to illness or quarantine can be found in our Hybrid Learning Guide for Students and Families as well as in a quick reference guide here.

Participate in the FJVD Certificate Program!
This program is a great way to reduce the cost of your tuition while supporting FJVDl!

Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
