They also are the people to handle ordering the supplies. To be a laboratory technician you have to have a 2 year program for veterinary technicians and a 4 year program for veterinary technologist. Also a biotechnology certificate is preferred. Most Laboratory Animal Technicians can expect to earn between $16 and $24 per hour, or up to $39,000 per year.
