Tyngsborough Elementary School

10/2/17 Update

It is hard to believe that we are already one month into the school year and what an amazing month it has been! A lot of time and care is spent in this first month in developing new school families in each of our classrooms. Teachers work hard to establish a community of learners ready to do their best for the rest of this school year!

Grade 4 Band/Sign-up for Learning an Instrument During the School Day

On September 19th, Grades 4 students (and Grade 5 students new to TES) attended a presentation by members of the Grade 7-12 Concert Band. All of the primary musical instruments were demonstrated with the goal of inspiring each student to begin learning how to play an instrument. Each student went home with a gold-colored registration form and letter containing information on how to get started in the Band Program. (Additional forms are available in the main office.) Instrument instruction/Band will take place during the school day. Interested students should return the registration form to their classroom teacher by Monday, October 2nd. Instrument Rental Night will be held in the TES Cafeteria on Wednesday, October 4th at 6:30pm. Contact Matt Eaton (matthew.eaton@tyngsboroughps.org) with any questions.

Health Reminders

Allergy Information/Action Plans

Reminders were sent out to Parents/Guardians with Action Plan Forms. This information is needed returned as soon as possible. Without current updated Forms and Epi Pens students unfortunately would not be able to attend any upcoming Field Trips. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation -we are just waiting on a few more forms.

Physical Exams and Immunization Records:

Pre K and Kindergarten: Reminders were individually sent to Parents/Guardians for students whose information was still missing or incomplete. Please forward as soon as possible.

Fourth Grade Physicals: Just a reminder that a current Physical Exam copy is required for all fourth grade students’ thank you for those of you who have submitted copies. Individual reminders will go out next week.

Flu Vaccines: Just a reminder it is that time of year to plan on getting your student vaccinated for Influenza- the Flu. Vaccines are now available through your Primary Care Physicians.

Vision and Hearing Screenings: We will begin our annual Massachusetts DPH mandated screenings. They will take place during the months of October and November. You will be notified if your student has any difficulty.

CLOTHING CHANGES: Parents please make sure your student has an extra set of their own clothes (including underwear) in their lockers. This is a frequent dilemma in the health office for a number of reasons, spills, torn clothing, and bathroom accidents. It happens across the age groups and all grades Pre-K-grade 5!) It so much easier, quicker and less embarrassing for students to have their own clothes available.

Current Health Issues:

We have been seeing students presenting with cold and or fall allergy symptoms.

We have also seen an increase in reports of strep throat over the last week. A reminder- any student who is diagnosed with any communicable illness such as strep should be on their prescribed antibiotic for 24 full hours and feeling well enough to be back at school.

Finally, We with profound gratitude wish Mrs. Eileen Colton RN our School Nurse the best for her Retirement. Mrs. Colton has been with the Tyngsborough Public Schools for many years and has compassionately and professionally taken care of so many of our students. We will miss her smiling face and patience in the health office. It has been an honor to work with her here at TES. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!!!!

TES Movie Night - Hosted by THS Students

Tyngsborough High School’s International Action class will be having a Movie Night on October 13, 2017 at the Tyngsborough Elementary School. International Action is a class where high school students are able to choose an organization to work to donate money to, and our group has chosen to donate all of our earning to the Susan G. Koman foundation for Breast Cancer research. The movie that we will be playing is Moana, and we are very excited for everyone to come. The fee is $12 per child, and a slice of pizza and a drink is included with the price. If a parent chooses to attend with their child, entry will be free, but food and drinks will be sold separately. Additional snacks will be sold separately on the night of the movie. Students are recommended to come at 5:30 pm, because the movie will begin at 6:00 pm, giving them 30 minutes to eat their meal. The pickup time will be at 8 pm, and the parents must come into the cafeteria to collect their children. (*Permission slips will be sent home this week.)
