STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: HAILEY LEON
Hailey Leon, 8th grade student at LPS, loves to dance, and this summer all of her hard work earned her a chance of a lifetime. Hailey was one of only 100 dancers selected internationally to attend the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Academy six-week summer intensive in Windsor, Connecticut. She was invited to attend the Bolshoi program while at Youth America Grand Prix performing in her first ballet competition.
"The program was really unique, challenging and fun," says Hailey Leon. "I focused on improving my technique and skills. Every day I worked / danced for about eight and a half hours."
In addition to dancing, learning Russian was also part of the curriculum at Bolshoi Ballet Academy. All of her instructors were either faculty or dancers of the Bolshoi in Russia. Hailey left the program feeling confident conversing in Russian in small phrases with her instructors without having to use a translator.
Hailey Leon, who has danced ballet for 11 years, started taking lessons at Sheena's Dance Academy in Frisco. After spending five years with Sheena's, she decided to pursue more classical dance training at Hathaway Academy of Ballet (HAB). She is currently in their pre-professional division having trained at HAB for the past six years. She is also entering her third year as a company member with the Collin County Ballet Theater and was recently promoted to Junior Company.
Hailey trains approximately 25 hours per week and sometimes longer, if she has company rehearsals. She will dance with Collin County Ballet Theatre when they open their ballet season September 29 with Ballet Fete at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. Additionally, she will participate in the Frisco Arts Run/Walk performances on October 6th with CCBT throughout the event. She will also perform in the Nutcracker with the Plano Symphony Orchestra at the Eisemann Center on November 30 and December 2.
Argentinian dancer Marianela Núñez, who performs with the Royal Ballet in England, and Adiarys Almedia, independent international ballet star and founder of Adi Dancewear, are Hailey’s role models. Hailey has actually had the opportunity to have dinner with Ms. Almedia on several occasions after performing in Collin County Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker. Ms. Almedia advised her on the real artistic journey to becoming a professional ballerina and emphasized the importance of setting goals and pursuing her dream. She even sent Hailey a care package with two signature Adi Dancewear leotards along with a kind note of encouragement while she was at the Bolshoi program this summer. Hailey has been feature on the Adi Dancewear Facebook page and Instragram wall – something that makes Hailey very happy.
Hailey Leon hopes to one day become a principle dancer with the Royal Ballet and also wants to pursue a medical degree and specialize in dance medicine. When she isn’t dancing, Hailey loves to rest and sleep, something that is very important for dancers, and hang out with her friends.
This school year, Hailey is looking forward to her science class with Mrs. Gearman, meeting new friends, reconnecting with her old friends, and working on some super fun project-based learning projects. She’s also excited to end her middle school career strong and become the best leader she can be.

What's New at LPS?
Parent Seminars
LPS is excited to offer parent seminars each month to educate all of our parents on topics that are important to them. The first monthly seminar topic will be "Helping your Student Establish Good Study Habits," and is scheduled for the latter part of September in the auditorium in our elementary campus (stay tuned to Facebook and the weekly eblasts for more information). For families with younger students, we plan to have supervised activities to engage elementary students while parents receive valuable information from LPS staff and our partners.
Robotics Program
Middle school and high school students now have the option of taking a for-credit robotics class. LPS is partnering with the REC Foundation to establish a robotics program using VEX robots and their curriculum. LPS plans to host a regional tournament at our secondary campus sometime in late fall / early winter. Stay tuned to the weekly eblast for more information once the date for the tournament is set.
UT OnRamps Dual-Enrollment Program
LPS has entered a partnership with the University of Texas OnRamps Dual-Enrollment Program to provide high school students access to an authentic University experience in the courses in Pre-calculus and Physics. Through the OnRamps dual enrollment design, students will have the opportunity to concurrently earn high school credit from Leadership Prep School and college credit from the University of Texas at Austin - the latter via a distance-education course that is guaranteed to transfer to any public college or university in Texas.
Donation Tree Artwork
A beautiful new artwork installation took place over the summer in the lobby of our secondary campus. This modern-looking tree represents our mission to inspire students to learn, grow, and lead for a lifetime.
Families who are part of the LPS Legacy Builder’s Major Donor program will have an opportunity to leave a legacy by having their child’s name or family name engraved on one of these leaves. Gift levels start at $1,000 and may be made on a monthly basis to help donors achieve their personal goals. Money raised through the Legacy Builders program goes to provide on-going support for the purchase of equipment, supplies, and other resources that contribute to the excellence of leadership, computer-immersion and project-based learning programs for LPS students. For more information about the Legacy Builders Program, please go to https://www.lpsfrisco.com/Page/1238.
Leadership Prep School is the P.L.A.C.E. to be!
The mission of Leadership Prep School is to inspire students to learn, grow, and lead for a lifetime. The acronym P.L.A.C.E. summarizes the five key areas that have been selected as the focus of LPS’ vision: Parent partnership, Leadership development, Academics, Creativity and Excellence.
LPS is proud to be a Leader in Me based school that applies The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to emphasize a culture of student empowerment and help unleash each child’s full potential. Focusing on the program’s timeless leadership principles nurtures the skills students need for success in the 21st century.
Leadership Prep School is recognized as a “Computer Science Immersion School” by Code to the Future. LPS integrates programming and game design into its curriculum starting in kindergarten with more advanced computer science concepts introduced as students advance each year.
Leadership Prep School is part of the New Tech Network and partners with local businesses to engage students in project-based learning activities, which enhances critical thinking skills in order that students may become strong problem-solvers. Project-based learning methodology makes learning relevant and prepares students for the demands of the workplace.
