The Field of Anthropology
Margaret Mead was the oldest of four children born on December 16, 1901 in Philadelphia and died in November 15, 1978. She graduated from barnard college and while she was attending she became interested in anthropology. She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in the year 1929. She was very much influenced by anthropologists Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Margaret Mead was known for her study and publications on cultural anthropology. She went to American Samoa in 1925 where she did her first field work.
